Watched an FA Cup re run on BBC today.Colchester v Leeds from 1972.Colchester had a big central defender called Kurila. Must be the ex Celtic player John Kurila???Certainly a no nonsense defender on this viewing.
Kurila the gorilla

Definitely him. Alex Ferguson still names the half back line of Kurila, Cushley and ,cNamee as the hardest he ever faced :worthy:

From a daily record photo montage of us v zombies.
Took me a while to spot this is two images stuck together.

It can't be Ibrox as the signs at their turnstyles stated Admission will be refused to anyone NOT in possession of an offensive banner etc.

:suspect:

Any more info on these pics bossman?

Quoting limited to 3 levels deepPosted Image
In the 1928/29 season there was a Scottish League rule that stated that there had to be a difference in colour of shorts between the teams. The away side usually changed to black shorts if the home side wore white ones. I think I mentioned it before on here and complained that it made Celtic look like a third division team from Portugal. :(
All Hail AntsHistory.

Dug out the story in the Mitchell and we DID wear black shorts and black socks and as AntsHistory says it WAS down to regulations that were imposed in 1927/28 season whereby one team had to wear black shorts if there was a clash of shorts.

This is the original unphotoshopped version of the League match at Ibrox that appeared in the Daily Ranger.

This is from the Glasgow Cup Final a week previous which we won. Note we wore our normal shorts but it was only League matches that were affected by the new regulation.

This is from the League match at Ibrox, showing the huns winner in the 1-0 match, our first defeat of the season. It clearly shows us in black shorts and black socks.

This is from the match report of the 1-0 defeat. It reads "Celtic in the new regulation dress looked funereal in their black pants and were subjected to some banter by the amused crowd".

As an aside the cartoon from the same match is quite good although it shows Tommy McInally, (who was sent off), wrongly wearing white shorts.
Excuse me. Is this a public riot or just a gathering of relations??

As you say, it was the 1927/28 season, so I was a year out. The reason I got confused was that Celtic opened the 1928/29 season with a 1-0 win at Dens Park and I have a photo from the match with Celtic wearing black shorts. I don't know why - possibly the kit man had not been informed about the rule changing back, or maybe it had something to do with the Intermediate Dispute. Normally Celtic would have disposed of unwanted strips by donating them to local Junior or juvenile clubs as part of transfer deals. But during the 1927-1931 period virtually all the Junior clubs in the Glasgow area had joined the rebel Intermediate FA, so transfers were illegal. Some juvenile clubs set up their own Intermediate Association also. The only local Junior club of any note which scabbed was Maryhill Hibs (Celtic farmed out several players to them during these years). So it could be that Celtic were left with old, but perfectly serviceable, kit which they decided to get some use out of rather than open the biscuit tin. :)

You know what, as much as I am proud of the ground these days I actually miss the old ramshackle parkhead.
