Is that queue for a Celtic v zombie game?
I'd guess its for a Scotland match rather than a domestic game. Tickets would (I think) be sold at respective grounds to avoid any problems :boxer:

St Anthony's juniors 1952.

Michael Conroy senior back row second from left.
Thanks for posting this picture - here and on the Ants Twitter site.

There is a former Celtic man in the line-up, Charlie Kelly, second from the right in the front row. His senior career was ruined by having to serve in the Royal Navy, and he ended up playing Junior for Duntocher Hibs, Bellshill Athletic and St Anthony's.

This is either the Erskine Hospital Charity Cup final vs Renfrew at Tinto Park, Friday 4/7/52, or the Smyllum Cup final vs Duntocher Hibs at Moore Park, Saturday 5/7/52. The good old Ants won both.

My money's on the Smyllum Cup final, which the Ants won 8-0. The shadows look about right for 4.45 on a Saturday afternoon, as opposed to 8.45 on a Friday evening. Also, the surface and the dusty state of the players' boots look right for a game played on the black ash at 'Stoor Park'.

The Ants team that day was O'Grady (who went to Cowdenbeath), Conroy (Celtic), Graham, Turnbull, O'Donnell (Ayr United via Irvine Victoria), Cavenagh, Mitchell, Elliott, Martin, Kelly and Philbin. Sorry I can't be precise about which player is which in the photo as right-half Peter Turnbull is sitting behind the cup in his role as captain, so mucking up the half-back trio. I think the guy in the suit may be match-secretary Jim McGlone, but I don't know the trainer's name - looks like he should be running Porky's!

If that is the Smyllum Cup, it was presented to the orphanage by Celtic legend Charlie Shaw.
Jeez that's magnificent.

O'Grady the goalie is my mate's uncle Harry who is still in Govan and is immensely proud of playing for the Ants.

He gave me the pic and the names are on the back so I'll dig it out.

That's the queue for the huns to get out the ground at the 7-1 game.
Very dignified they were.

Ghuy in the bottom left looks a bit like Jimmy Sirrell who played for Celtic from 1946 to 49 before going to Bradford then Brighton.

I think it is fair to say that Jimmy Sirrel was a journey man player, he was, however, a successful manager particularly with Notts County, with him they gained promotion to the old first division in the early 80's, he is a bit of a legend there, so much so they have called a stand at the Meadow Lane ground after him. He passed away a few years back aged 88.

Not the happiest afternoon :(
You're right there Kris. We got effing drenched and my mate broke his ankle jumping over the fence into the North Stand enclosure (we were trying to get under shelter and the stewards wouldn't open the gate - bastirts).
Awful day, awful result.

The names would be most welcome as I will be putting the picture in the club photo archive. Please let Harry O'Grady know that he is welcome at McKenna Park any time and will certainly get the VIP treatment if he makes an appearance. A near contemporary of his, Chris Mullen (Ants/Celtic), came along to a game a couple of years ago. :)
