Sorry Volvic, but couldnt disagree more.Hay was runner up twice to one of the finest sides Scotland has ever produced and his final season came up against the Souness revolution.Cup finals lost, three refereeing performances that still provoke anger almost 30 years later.Throw in an incompetent board, remember the efforts to sign Sturrock/Narey/Miller/Clarke/Nevin/McLaughlin,the man was up against it.
He really was up against it, I have great respect for him and he really is a genuinely nice guy.
Absolutely he is and I would never say anything personal against the guy, I just never really rated him as a manager.
I know exactly what Snowey is saying about those cup finals, the 84 League Cup was an icredible refereeing performance, although the 84 Scottish Cup final I am putting firmly at the door of Pat Bonner (look at his woeful attempt to come for the ball which gave a virtually empty net to McGhee).
But in 86/87 we had more than enough to win the league and we chucked it away, losing 4-1 at Dens in the February was criminal and then we started leaking points at home. Like I say 9 points clear in the January, we even beat the hun 3-1 in the April but still managed to lose it with a game to go meaning we allowed a 13 point swing when there were only 2 points for a win.

Loved Davie Provan as a player,

Went to Australia during our close season to hone his skills and did he ever...

WTF happened to him as a pundit??? :ponder:

I don't mind him as a pundit, he calls it pretty straight most of the time.
Some, like Murdo and Walker, appear to be playing to gallery, some like Nicholas are just fuds.
Provan always seemed very highly rated because he played it straight.
If you want to find out his opinion on Celtic just listen to his co-commentary on the 6-2 game, the excitment in his voice when describing the final goal is clear.
I thought DP played it straight when he first started doing the Sky gig and used to enjoy his column in the Sunday Mail (back when I bought the 'papers). Just seemed to me to go for the "never give Celtic the benefit of the doubt" routine later on for me.

Haven't heard him co-commentate in ages right enough.

Agree on the other examples. Seems to be the case with a lot of ex-Celts in the media.
