The two SC finals at '85 and '88 were even scarier
In 1985 for reasons still yet to be understood the SFA let the cup final be pay at the gate.
The north enclosure was so busy they had to open the area that had been under the old north stand and wasn't offcially open.
I remember pictures of guys that had climbed the floodlights that day.

But I don't remember any problem at 1988, that was all ticket.
Can't remember the details of ticketing....

But the actual numbers always exceeded the capacity.

this was pre-Hillsbrough and "lifting over" and doubling in were commonplace.

The turnstiles were just those waist-height steel contraptions.

Nah, not for me. I was at both of those and didn't think the crowding was worse than usual for Hampden.

The 3-0 Dundee game in the Centenary season is only surpassed for sheer scariness by the aftermath of the May '85 huns game when the polis decided to charge down Janefield Street. For the first time at a football match I really feared for my life.

That was another miracle nobody died.
Scariest for me was the Forest a in 1983. Sheer luck nobody died that night.
From what I have been told, that is very true.

It was something crazy like minus 9 degrees that evening too wasn't it?...

Would that be Hynds CB?
Tom Maley ce - Willie's brother -

Tom scored two for definite in the first game but believe it or not there is no record of who scored one of the goals albeit it is generally credited to Tom Maley.
was in a sports bar in Majorca last week and there was a retro poster up with Tom Maley endorsing Bovril whilst with Manchester City

Was in the old north enclosure at the 1885 SCF - remember watching what looked like thousands of people coming over the wall behind the Celtic end - proper scary stuff
Fortunately drink had been taken and most couldn't give a flying feck
The Celtic support was infamous for staying in the pub til the last possible minute then expecting to get in to see the game kick off
