Featuring the great man :worthy: who scored three goals (or did he? :ph43r: ) in Celtic's very first game against the Deid Bastards whether they were Swifts or not.

Tom Maley ce - Willie's brother -

Tom scored two for definite in the first game but believe it or not there is no record of who scored one of the goals albeit it is generally credited to Tom Maley.

I've been doing a bit of reading about Tommy Maley and have been trying to find some pictures of him in his various guises, the player next to him is a another Celt, T Hynds?

1975 SCF against Airdrie - Paul Wilson taking the field - His Mother had died four days earlier - The players and Jock attended her funeral and Paul told Jock he still wanted to play - Jock duly picked him and Paul scored twice in a 3-1 win - He was asked if he wanted to take a penalty but declined and Pat McCluskey duly buried it.

Big Billy's last ever game.

Underrated player Paul Wilson. :worthy:

Just getting into Celtic around that time and you are very right, he was a player that I tended to overlook but have come to appreciate now, a brave man on that day given the circumstances.

Agreed.

Looking back it was a miracle there were no fatalities.

But for the grace of God that bunch of doddering old fools would have has blood on their hands and sent to jail.

I'm not being hysterical about it either. Anyone who was there will agree.
The two SC finals at '85 and '88 were even scarier
Nah, not for me. I was at both of those and didn't think the crowding was worse than usual for Hampden.

The 3-0 Dundee game in the Centenary season is only surpassed for sheer scariness by the aftermath of the May '85 huns game when the polis decided to charge down Janefield Street. For the first time at a football match I really feared for my life.

That was another miracle nobody died.

The replay at Celtic Park against Aberdeen in 1986 was another scary occasion. One guy I was at the game disappeared to the bog at half time and wasn't seen again that night. Official attendance was around 55000.queuing for
tickets for the second replay a few days later and a policeman we were talking to said they had estimated it at 72000. Seriously frightening crowd that night in the Celtic end.

The scariest crowd congestions I can remember were (a) at Forest and (b) a cup replay at Love St.

In 1985 for reasons still yet to be understood the SFA let the cup final be pay at the gate.
The north enclosure was so busy they had to open the area that had been under the old north stand and wasn't offcially open.
I remember pictures of guys that had climbed the floodlights that day.

But I don't remember any problem at 1988, that was all ticket.

Agreed.
I missed the first 20 minutes or so queuing to get in and it was complete chaos, once we got in we discovered the whole stadium was rammed full and there were still plenty of people behind me trying to get in.
