Eh, is that not a Willie Maley quote :ponder:
It certainly was but Jock has been wrongly quoted as saying it.

Pleased to say they got the bronze plaque right.

The plaque above contains the Willie Maley quote about the club in which he played such a prominent role: It’s Not the Creed nor Nationality that Counts, It’s the Man Himself. It features Celtic’s first manager himself and representations of three players in the first three main Celtic jerseys (Celtic cross, green and white stripes, green and white hoops). It also has an engraving of a Celtic brake club and its banner being taken to an early game by horse.

Great stuff Four Leaf Clover. Jock has so many great quotes, that it is a shame, imo that they would let an inaccuracy in the Main Stand lie, probably, ignorant of the fact.

Never seen it in person, as I'm in the North Stand, but, a real shame.

When you read what Calton bhoy posted yesterday, it doesn't seem the club care/give a eff about the history. It's amazing that the superstars/club legends/Lisbon Lions and people of that ilk, are easily more available to normal punters than the current squad, a lot of who we will barely remember in 10 years time.

I've had the pleasure of speaking to many of the 4-2 team recently and a fire still burns in them.

The fact that current players will not attend CSC functions is nohing sort of scandalous.
Agree with that st.a - It also burns with the QSG as evidenced by Kds's Paul Dykes's book but Celtic just don't see it would benefit the Club to utilise these guys.

Nowadays the Club think having a few ex players hosting the Toffs and Stevie covering the Pools table (which may not happen for much longer) is all they have to do.

I have had it out with them in Celtic Park about it (and am going back to try again) but afaics there are only two guys who get it but they come back that they are hitting their heads against a brick wall :brickwall: - Joe Miller has set up a long overdue Player's Association and he seems willing to help but he freely admits he has met obstacles which just shouldn't happen - He should be given all the help he needs.

They play up the History when it suits but very few fall for that these days - To give an example when Jimmy McGrory died in 1982 other than cancelling his Celtic View within a week of his death nobody from Celtic had been anywhere near the family in 30 years  - We are talking probably Celtic's Greatest Ever Player and they dgaf - When Celtic Graves approached James McGrory Jnr about commemorating his Father on the 30th Anniversary it was totally negative initially until he was convinced and satisfied that Celtic Graves had nothing to do with the Club - From there on it was a case of nursing the McGrory family along with the help of Pat Woods and John Cairney whom they trusted - At the Commemoration itself a Celtic Employee who was asked to speak on behalf of the Club had the cojones and put his head above the parapet and admitted in his speech that the McGrory family had been wronged and that this was a wrong that was now put right thanks to CGS not Celtic - Long story cut short but it was emphasised to Celtic not to let the link with the McGrory's be broken again now that it had been re-established and the family were onside again - That was coming up two years ago and the family have never heard form Celtic since. :nono:

This same scenario can be applied to many in recent years from players up to and including the Marist Brothers.

They have and are continuing to feck up.
That is disgusting CB,but thanks for sharing that.

Following on from the point about the inaccessibility of the first team. Went to the TB testimonial dinner, late 2006. The first team tables had big security all around it, not allowing people to approach it.

10 yards away, a table with Provan, Aitken, McStay, McKinlay, Stark, McAvennie, van Hooijdonk happily chatting with fans....

Like guarding a jobby while the crown jewels lie on the pavement beside it.

The McGrory treatment was shocking. From the old board and the current incumbents.

Shame on them all.

The old guard are dying out, witness recent passing of John Divers.

What happens then ? :ffs:

Sean Fallon, bottom row third from the left with his club team, Craobh Ruadh who were Sligo County champions 1947-48. Sean was forced to give up GAA because of the ban on gaelic football players playing soccer. Seems crazy now but fairly common up to the late '60's.
