Wilbur Cush joined Leeds 57 ,so Il plump for that since
the 57 game was played there.
This is an interesting challenge
Wikipedia confirms the '57 signing but adds

"His performances at Elland Road earned him his call up to Northern Ireland for the 1958 World Cup. "
...
"In 1960 he moved to Portadown F.C"
So this should narrow it down

One piece of confusion for younger folks may be that 'Ireland' referred to 2 national teams recognised by FIFA right up until the 80s, again according to Wikipedia, so I was looking at the wrong country's history at first

the IFA (northern Ireland) played in this matxh , but their history doesn't show it
http://irishfa.com/international/fixtures-and-results/historical-results/?decade=1950

Someone above found the army fixtures (I can't find them), only one of them fits the above I think?

The 50's striker? No, and was rumoured to be very favourable of the dark side.

He is one of the playyers named in the teams,
also Bobby Charlton joined the army in 56
.Trying to nail down this game where are all the experts
when you need them.
I'm with you now, the other games played by the NI select were as follows;

v British Army, Wed 20 Nov 1957 @ Leeds
v British Army, Wed 11th Mar 1959 @ Belfast
v British Army, Wed 4th May 1960 @ Belfast (Peacock of Celtic, Lowry of Falkirk featured)

The Army football website stated that CH Denis retired late '56 which is why I ruled out these three.
Did CT retire from NI in '59?
Also wasn't he injured for the WC in '58 according to the Wiki?
I presume that the D. Whelan in the Army team is none other the Dave 'Tory Boy' Whelan of Wigan Athletic fame?

^Dave Whelan? I'm sure he broke his leg in the FA Cup final but I gather it's not something he likes to talk about........
