Was there anybody back then that expressed sympathy to us in the media or even a reserved neutrality?
Cyril Horne was a respected journalist who was a good friend to Celtic during that period.

Also John Rafferty of the Scotsman.

Crampsey was generally bang on and a good pal of Jock's - He was the most knowledgeable sports guy around and wrote an excellent book on Jock.

Jim Rodgers was Jock's mate and the guy Jock trusted and used to get to players and get at the huns - He also got him to lay many false rumours in amongst the Press to make them look ridiculous - The Press were in fear of Jock generally.

Ian Archer famously slaughtered the huns very existence in one article.
^^^^

ce - Checked Archer's quote which I think you will like.

"This has to be said about Rangers, as a Scottish Football Club they are a permanent embarrassment and disgrace. This country would be a better place if Rangers did not exist".

That was after the hun hordes had ran riot at Villa Park in 1976.

The ambulance men at the match had described the huns' charge as alike to the Zulus at Rourke's drift.

Man City wanted Celtic to play in Mike Doyle's testimonial after that but Manchester Police said no way after Villa Park.

Even in more recent times the huns s had a friendly with Bolton at the Reebok cancelled as the Chief Constable of Greater Manchester "couldn't guarantee the safety of the people of Bolton".

30000 Tims were then allowed to descend on Old Trafford for Keane's Testimonial.

I was at that game as well and remember us all sitting on the bus after the game incredulous as to the bias of Parks commentary.

He was practically creaming his pants when they scored.

I remember listening to David Francie one time at a New Year game at Ibrox, must have been 1975 I reckon, the huns won 3-0 that day after Celtic capitulated in the second half.

He was practically singing along and the bastard had me, as an impressionable 14 year old, crying while I sat beside the radio in my room.

Two of gems I`ll never forget..............."Cutty Young with the ball, hes kicked, hes hacked, hes hacked again........"

"Listen to the Rangers fans sing, Hello, Hello........................"

Paraphrasing of course.

I was 10 at time and can remember listening to same commentary.

Even at 3-0 down I thought we could still come back :ffs:

Kenny had a howler that day.

My old mans recollection of that game was that we missed chance after chance early on, then when they got their first goal we totally caved in.

And yes, Kenny, my all time hero, had a stinker.
