Jimmy McGrory on the boat returning from US Tour in 1931.
McGrory dismbarked at Derry to travel to Moville where he married his first wife.
Think Cairney's book says he disembarked at Moville not Derry and then got married in St.Pius in Moville which is not* the site of the present St.Pius in Moville.

Wedding was all put in place by the Greens of Greens Playhouse fame - Jimmy's first wife was Veronica Green - She died fairly young in an operation to try and conceive and is buried in Dalbeth not that far from Jimmy himself.

I know CI and flc know all this.

Where you not watching the McGrory wedding from up in Cooley CI? :ph43r:

*I asked the locals.
Am no sure a boat from America could sail into Movillle and mighta needed the deeper waters at Derry.

Might be wrong of course.

Mammy and Daddy CelticIreland both set sail for the first time leaving Irish shores from Derry in 1961 and 1945 respectively to this promised land (ha) but no sure if there was an option to sail from Moville before this. Auld bhoy was leaving Termonbaca orphanage in the Brandywell, Derry at the age of 10 so he wouldn't have sailed from Moville anyway but ma mammy woulda.

Any Donegal KDSers know if large boats sailed from Moville back in the day? Celtic relevance is whether McGrory disembarked from 1931 USA Tour at Moville or Derry?

Didn't come into Moville CI - No chance of that - The channels are only deep enough in the middle of the Foyle - You are forgetful you auld bassa that I told you my ancestors and even to this day my cousins are Pilots taking the ships up to the Foyle to Derry - They used to go out on a Pilot Ship at Shroove nowadays it is from Greencastle.

They sent a launch out to pick James Edward up.

1945 I am sure your Mammy would have been from Derry - Never been done from Moville.

Didn't get a chance to catch you properly at the weekend - Hope you and the crew are good Sir.
