Any info, cheers :)
Looks like opening game of 69-70 season against St Johnstone. Game finished 2-2.

I think the St Johnstone player is Henry Hall.

Was nice to see all the Lennon masks in the crowd yesterday, but you will never top these :worthy:

I would say that is the opening league game of 1969/70 (30/08/69) St. Johnstone game at CP that attracted a crowd of 66,000; it finished 2-2.

EDITED TO ADD: It was a cracking game, btw.
I would agree with all that.

Ah yes. John Connolly, not Henry Hall.

My Uncle Bertie took me to that game. I was 7. That morning he'd taken me to the Barras. There was a stall that sold Celtic and Rangers footballs. I wanted a Celtic one but he bought me a Rangers one as it would "teach me how to kick really hard".

Celtic: Fallon Craig Gemmell Brogan McNeill Clark Johnstone Connelly Wallace Hood Chalmers. Sub: Macari

Saints: Donaldson Lambie Cockburn Gordon Rooney McPhee Aird Hall McCarry Connolly Aitken

I was at that game and I have a recollection of it being quite foggy and so being at the other side of the ground, it was difficult to see what had actually happened. If I recall correctly, sadly one person died as a result of this incident.

You don't get many better replies to a query.

Question asked about something over 50 years ago. Answer comes straight back from someone who was at the game.

Celtic Ireland - thank you for the compliment and as you will now have seen from the newspaper article, my memory isn't too bad after all.

Loving this topic - so many memories, good and bad. I've got a couple of goodies to post if my very old brain can work out how to scan images and post them on the site.

In the interest of KDS topographical truthfulness, Green St is in the Calton not Bridgeton.

I think the St Johnstone player is Henry Hall.
This was the first game I was allowed to go to on my own - well, with my mates.
I have a particular memory of that game - perhaps someone else could confirm that my memory is not playing tricks..

We were in the Celtic end for the first half, but moved round to the Rangers end at half-time (with some difficulty due to the huge crowd).
So my memory is that Celtic unusually played into the Celtic end in the first half, and we must have moved round to see the goals better for the second half.
Having "remembered" that, I have to admit that I forgot it was a 2-2 draw.
