Looks like opening day of 90-91, a horrible 2-0 defeat in Motherwell made all the more hellish by the fact that the west of Scotland was covered in wasps, a couple of the wee bassas got me at this match.

Not a pleasant day so thanks for dredging this one up CE

Recently appeared on ebay, can't say I'm too familiar with the black shorts? Is that Rooney sliding in on goals, looks like his new hair?
The reason for the black shorts is that in 1928/29 the Scottish Football League had one of their bright ideas and introduced a rule stating that the away team had to wear them, unless the home team's official kit included black shorts. I think the idea was to make it easier to distinguish between the teams. The idea was daft, only lasted one season, and made Celtic look like a Portugese third division team. :)

That's the same Scottish Football League who resisted the introduction of white footballs for many years!

Pink with yellow spots and a red lace. they were usually brown with a white lace if my memory serves me right.
