Anton took the brunt of it afterwards but Big Shuggie missed the first one :(
I always associate the term Big Shuggie with Edvaldsson.

Wdowczyk was just Shuggie (unless Mrs W can confirm otherwise). ;)
Wdowczyk was christened "Shuggie" by Tommy Burns :worthy: as nobody could say his surname. :( ;)

Ronnie Glavin scored that, I'm sure.
Think it was George McCluskey in 3-1 win to the Good Guys and the hun running back may be Bobby Russell.
Correct. September 9 1978, 3-1 one of my fave OF games as a boy.

The famous open day from 1977 or 78.

:ponder:

Advertised in the Celtic View, several thousand mostly kids turned up to see i guess the players going through a training routine.
I never figured out what was the exact point of it.
It wasn't as if we hadn,t seen round the stadium.
Outside of a huns game you could have walked from one corner flag to another without any bother.
And the stand, well unless they were showing you the dressing room or the board room there wasn't much to see.
The whole corporate box and restaurant scene hadn't happening yet.
And there was no chance of us all getting a look in the press box hanging from the stand roof.

Anyway after about ten minutes one young urchin followed by three thousand others had entered the field of play and the open day was over unless you wanted to go on to the centre spot and have a gawp around you.
Still think the highlight of the day was half the crowd running out the open exit gates to wave at a passing Orange Walk going down London Rd.
At least i think they were waving.
Maybe it was an early attempt in seeing how quickly you could empty a stadium.

Suppose it made a change from a Sunday down the barras.

Yogi - my recollection is that Rangers had one as well and this was an initiative by both clubs after some hooliganism particularly when the Huns went on the rampage at Aston Villa in October 1976.

The open day was April 1977.

Matt Lynch taught me in St Gerards in Govan and I think this is the letter Jimmy Duncanson of Rangers wrote to the SFA after Matt was sent off at Ibrox in the 40's.

They broke the mould with Matt. Celtic through and through.
A lad I worked with (and still play football with) sat beside Jimmy Duncanson at Ibrox. Said he was a really nice guy.

He didn't score against them but he only played against 2 European teams with the no. 11 shorts on. Partizan Tirana and Real Madrid. I'd say you're correct cartuja.
