Being from Garryowen Limerick myself this image holds a lot of interest for me, this is supposed to be in front of Cruises Hotel in the center of Limerick City, I worked for twenty years for a man that managed and eventually owned that hotel which is long gone but does anyone have any information on this visit to Limerick?
Recognizing the handiwork.

Celtic party travelled over to Limerick for a benefit match for Johnny Paton April 1936.

3 Celtic managers in the photograph and one soon to be rangers player, Bert Harrison who guested for us signed for them not long after that match

Greatly appreciate the information FLC, I know of the Johnny Paton that played for Celtic who signed in 1942, there doesn't seem to be a Johnny Paton that played for Limerick at the time although there isn't a great deal of information available. Do you have any more that you could add?

There was a Johnny Paton who was a signed Celtic player in the 1920s but he never played a first team match. He was the father of the Johnny Paton of the 1940s.

I haven't got a clue, however, if he's the guy in your picture.

Sorry Elvis its been quite a while since i put the names to that line-up and i never got as far as looking up Johnny Paton, as far as i know Celtic only used Limerick as a base.

If you can find the time you may want to look up the newspapers like the Limerick Chronicle and other local rags for these dates when Celtic played a 3 day match tour.

They played Belfast Celtic on the 28th April 1936 in a benefit match for Bob Ferguson, then Waterford the next day and Cork Celtic the next, which we won all 3 games.
