meeting a friend and sharing a pie.
"Live within your means! Oh no Alistair that's not the way. You sell off the family silver, but instead of using the money wisely you give yourself and your friends huge contracts, bleed the place dry and blame everyone but yourself when the whole thing collapses. Let me introduce you to Mr Murray.."

"To be honest there's no need, we've already met. What you doing later......?"

I am now in my 50's and was brought up as a boy with the Magnificent Lions, with some of our greatest ever players, Bobbys Murdoch and Lennox, Jinky, John Clark, Bertie etc. It is always difficult to state who was the greatest ever, however, Patsy Gallacher was something else, he was probably the first football superstar, albeit on a meagre wage. He quite simply filled stadiums, not just in Scotland but wherever Celtic played, he even wore the blue of Der hun under Struth, albeit for only one testimonial game. I believe he was our greatest ever player, although I may be wrong, often am! Nevertheless I firmly believe we should never forget our earlier heroes, and in particular the likes of Patsy. He is the epitome of our club.

We wore that strip in the Scottish Cup Final in 1926 against St Mirren, but we lost 2-0.

I've just turned 50 myself and have to say even though I claim to be a Celt since the early 70's I had a shameful lack of knowledge of the history of our club. The pictures posted of Patsy Gallacher were amazing in the sense that he looked such a
diminutive character. Given that the pitches would have been no where near the cultured quality they are today, the ball was akin to kicking/heading a brick and the opposing players had license to assault you on the field, that players like Patsy gave such entertainment is testimony to their incredible abilities. It is a shame but we all tend to look to the hero's of the era we live in, for me it was Danny McG even though in Ireland it was difficult to access regular footage of the Celts until the late 80's. This thread is essential for the less endowed (historically speaking :arrr: ) like myself. If we can keep this thread going I can see myself applying for Mastermind, chosen subject Celtic FC 1923-24 season

John Colquhoun, had a pretty decent career at Hearts.

Any more info on the Patsy G pics ghuys?

FLC the second bottom one looks like its taken in the centre circle and with the angle of Bonhill church in the background, it would make that wee stand out as sitting beside the Pavillion that still stands today and where we had the first team photo taken at.

:worthy:
Working on it Boss :brickwall:

Obviously all related to the Gallacher family but no a lot to go on - no clues like writing on the back but the 2 images of them out on the park have a James Russell Auburn Alexandria photographers stamp on the reverse.
The Glasgow Herald for September 9, 1941 reported on the recent death at Tarbert of Mr James Russell, Auburn, Alexandria, so more than likely they 2 photo's were taken on the Vales ground and would date pre 1941.
Player with his hands behind his back is wearing a Vale of Leven strip and i dont have a clue what team would have wore the other strip, weather seems different in them 2 photos so probably different days, going by the
massive crowd behind Patsy i would date that one to 1939 as that was the year the Vale went Junior. I wont go with 1953 when they won the Junior Cup as that would make Patsy 60 yrs old and he disnae look that.

Patsy standing with his 2 sons? Willie (Celtic) & Tommy (Dundee) both played against each other in that match that supposedly could have got us relegated circa 1948.

The one of Patsy with John (hooky) McPhail is one we have seen similar before with all the older ex-Celts waiting in a Queue for a reunion

One with the Shamrock strips is Patsy's son with who appears to me to be Alec Boden (he always had something about wearing his collar like that) circa 1949.
