Strange headline, 'Irish Football triumph' 'Celts win scottish Cup'?
Think they thought we were refugees or something
"Man in the Know" was a pen name for an obviously partisan writer in the Glasgow Observer which always ran stories in favour of Irish immigrants, Catholicism, Celtic etc. I wouldn't be suprised to read of a Celtic victory being described as a victory for the Irish by either of them. If "Irish" was said in the Observer, it wouldn't be in a derogatory way

Celtic were referred to as the Irishmen in all the early papers.
The examples are numerous.

Any more info on the Patsy G pics ghuys?

FLC the second bottom one looks like its taken in the centre circle and with the angle of Bonhill church in the background, it would make that wee stand out as sitting beside the Pavillion that still stands today and where we had the first team photo taken at.

:worthy:

looks like the pitch is being invaded by womens libbers?
Any info on this game?
Pretty sure it's the cwc tie v politechnica Timisoara . A 1-0 defeat, putting us out on away goals. They went on to lose to west ham in the next round.

Some photos from Celtic away to Politehnica Timisoara in 1980.
I sent some a couple of years ago to Auldbhoy and he put them on the Wiki. These are not on the Wiki.

McCluskey, Conroy, and Bonner on the pitch pre-match.

Any idea what year/match this image is from?
Could be the Scottish Cup Final 1909 v Rangers that developed into the first Hampden riot.
I'm only saying that because I've seen a different photo of that game and the Sommerville Drive turnstiles looked like that, but they were burned down during the riot, apparently some people used whisky to fuel the fires!

British Pathe News have put over 90,000 film clips on youtube including some amazing footage of Celtic. Everything from the big cup win to Old Firm games from the 1920s.

pretty sure that guy Patsy is talking to in suit (with car in background) is John McPhail, Celtic striker from early 50s

Must be a pre-season game before we had launched the new strip.

I loved the patsy Gallagher photos. If I could go back in time and see a Celtic player it would be patsy who jimmy mcgrory described as being better than jinky(!) so he must have been good.I read that when played his first game for Celtic the fans were sniggering because he was so frail but weren't sniggering at the end of the game!
