Approx what year is this from?
Early 1990s. I'd say 1992.

The lettering above the jungle makes it no earlier than 1987, because that was taken from the old front of the main stand when it was renovated in 1987-88.

It's not clear from the photo, but I think the crush barriers in the jungle and rangers end are the new ones, which date it from around 1991-92.

Couldn't have been any later than 1994, when the jungle was seated.

Hope that narrows it down a bit...

Early 1970's. The fence in front of the Jungle went up in Nov 1975 so it's before that.

Edit: It's the 1990's right enough.

Appreciate the information Wilfred, I was over maybe a couple of times a year during the early 90's but that picture bares no recollection to what I remember.

Always liked that one, even though it ended badly. Banner in the crowd from the Los Angeles? Celtic supporters, came a long way to see us lose out.
There was a San Diego supporters club banner just in front of me at that game.

. I'm assuming this is artistic licence from the colouring in person?

Be good to introduce these for our Scottish refs

It looks like green stantions in the goals which would definitely make it early 90s,also one of the advertising hoardings says Viola which you used to see around that time. And yes, I am a sad, sad man. :nono:

I was in my mid twenties the first time I had enough money to go over and the sheer excitement of finally getting over there has probably clouded my memory of those years. In that image the place looks nothing like I remember it, CP seems smaller to me in that image than I remember. I have pictures I took myself at the time and hopefully I will post in the coming months. First time I went was in '87, my first OF match was in '88 and from memory I thought the old stadium looked better than it did in the many pictures posted on here. The distance behind the goals to the stand seems longer than I remember but I honestly can't be sure.

If you've got a minute, go to the Google sketchup website. You can download a brilliant 3d model of the old ground. It's pretty much perfect. Amazing the memories it brought back for me.

When you consider that flying was too expensive for the great majority of people at that time, it must have cost a small fortune to get over from the west coast of the US to go to the match.

Celtic V huns 1909, Hampden, major rioting I'm told plus fire started by over enthusiastic burning crosses on the klan side. Any of you that were at the match, I would welcome an eye witness report :ph43r:
I was under the impression that this was a riot against the authorities rather than full on Tim/hun action, It was caused by no extra time being played and what was thought to be excess ticketing prices, or basically the fans of both teams being ripped off.

I also thought that the (what was then called 'the Auld Firm') rivalry was not as vitriolic in 1909 as it became a few years later. The opening of the H&W shipyard on the Clyde just before the Great War being a watershed.

I know very little from that period Doc but you are quite right about the opening of the shipyard being a watershed. It was probably the influx of loyalists from Ulster to work in the yards that gave the OF rivalry the nasty edge.

I would say it's 89-90.
In 1990-91 there was advertising attached to the barriers on the east terrace, they aren't there, but as has previously been mentioned the stantions are green (or certainly not white) which puts it beyond 1988.
I need to get out more, I mean, really; who has this kind of information in their brain :cuckoo:

David Moyes with his hand up :ponder:
Well spotted, I forgot he played for Dunfermline.
Davie Moyes scored the goal that got us into Europe that season!
Final day of the season we won 3-2 at St Johnstone, Dunfermline were playing Dundee United at East End Park, for some reason their game finished very late, I was actually on the supporters bus when the radio broadcast the news that the Pars had scored late to win the game and allow us to grab the last Euopean spot.
That game was our last home league game of the season, we won 5-1.

Absolutely, although I did read, I believe in Graham McColl's book that the first anti-Celtic / Irish sectarian bile at a football match in Scotland was at Greenock Morton. This was just after the Great War, around 1921.
