Willie Fernie is one who my Grandfather used to go on about. Looking at the photo, he looks a hardy player.

A great player who was compared favourably to Patsy Gallacher in his day. Also a great family man.

Willie's wife Audrey in the pic was Audrey Douglas who was Jimmy McGrory's Secretary at Celtic Park for many years - I have been told by a few ex players who were around the scene that "Audrey held the place together" at various points during the bad times.

Sadly as cartuja knows Audrey passed away fairly recently.

How many of the Committee can fit in a photo?

Isn't that the League of Ireland Select game in Dublin around 1921?
Only Manager Willie Maley, Board Member Tom Colgan, Chairman Tom White and our trainer with the moustache (between McNair and McStay) are Celtic men.
The rest are from the home team. Mind in those days we were run by a 4 man Board, which went down to 3 men for long spells too showing how easy we were as a club to be ran directly from the Boardroom missing out the dug out.
Just a pic i had in my digi collection CI

looked up the actual film which shows this pic at the beginning + more committee men getting in on the act

http://www.britishpathe.com/record.php?id=20361

1924.Think that might have been the first game an Irish Free State team played.Later that year a 26 counties olympic team played the USA,again using the Irish diaspora to gain legitimacy after the FAI split from the IFA ? Couple of years later they played their first FIFA recognised international against Italy.(Patsy Gallacher played for the IFA and FAI teams at different times). So Celtic had an interesting part in the development of soccer in the 26 counties (The republican minded might be a bit queasy about Celtic helping to legitimise 'the wrong side' only a couple of years after the end of the civil war though :naught: )

Going by the fencing round the terracing, I would reckon that's post-1980; McCloy played with the Huns until 1986. The Hun defender looks like Forsyth*, who left them in 1982.

* Compared to him, McCulloch is Platini.

Milan, European Cup Final, 1970 . . .

Posted Image
Every time I see photographs of the supporters in Milan 1970, time, I try and spot my friend Mike who just happened to be there at the time travelling home through Europe to London from the Middle East. He enjoyed being amongst the Celtic fans (he was actually a Gooner himself) and he honestly believed we had won the cup, as he would often tell me that that the Celtic fans were partying as hard as if they had actually won the game and not Feyenoord. It was only on waking up outdoors in a park in Milan the following morning with an enormous hangover that he was told Celtic had in fact lost!

My friend Mike died on Friday after a shockingly brief illness, I can’t even begin to tell you how upset Mrs Otis & I are – he was a true genuine and solid friend, and probably the only east-end London Jew farming Jersey cows in south Wales (!).

Prior to his meeting with the Celtic fans in Milan he had been living as a teenage kibbutz volunteer in Israel and then was subsequently coerced into fighting for the Israeli Army in the war of attrition in 1969 and 1970. He would tell me that surrendering to the simple abandonment and sheer drunken joy of the Celtic supporters' party over that week in Milan went at least a little way to erasing the horrors he had just experienced, fighting & killing young Syrian soldiers on the Golan Heights who were little older than himself - and equally duped into combat.

Alav hashalom, Mike.

Think it was George McCluskey in 3-1 win to the Good Guys and the hun running back may be Bobby Russell.

Brilliant picture FLC, not seen that one before.
Check the size and presence of goalie Charlie Shaw.
Wouldnae mess with him.

Are you 100% sure that aint photoshopped? Even if it was there looks like 13 in the pic deffo not touched which was unusual to say the least for so many to be stripped in the days before subs were allowed.

Mibbes its a one off squad photo?
