The shot of Neilly Mochan standing next to Charlie Gallagher is from Hugh Birt's archive.
Do you have access to Hugh Birt's archive?

How many of the Committee can fit in a photo?

Isn't that the League of Ireland Select game in Dublin around 1921?
Only Manager Willie Maley, Board Member Tom Colgan, Chairman Tom White and our trainer with the moustache (between McNair and McStay) are Celtic men.
The rest are from the home team. Mind in those days we were run by a 4 man Board, which went down to 3 men for long spells too showing how easy we were as a club to be ran directly from the Boardroom missing out the dug out.

Thats some gap between the old Hayshed/Jungle and the pitch.

Take it the new Jungle was moved forward slightly in 66/67.
... or else the pitch was widened? :hmmm:
It's a very good point, that gap does look very big between the pitch and the Hayshed.
The Hayshed replaced the enclosure with the two arches on the roof in 1929, but in actual fact it was only the roof that changed as far as i'm aware.
It was merely re-roofed.
The enclosure roof with the two arches replaced the Janefield St Stand which burned down in 1904 and again as far as i'm aware the position of the enclosure never changed.

That same area between the pitchside and the enclosure remember used to have a running track and a cycling track.
The cycling track was removed in 1913 increasing the capacily of the ground but this increase came behind both goals where the terracing was extended at the front.

From my Jungle days the gap was never that big from memory so i can only assume the pitch in that photo was very narrow and widened later, certainly the grass was widened where the linesman ran up and down.

What year was this??

Willie Fernie is one who my Grandfather used to go on about. Looking at the photo, he looks a hardy player.

EDIT: Jim Kennedy is Dean Windass!!! John Fallon is Steve McLaren!!

All of these players were at the club from probably 1958-62 but as Fernie looks a bit older than when at his peak, I'd take a guess that this was taken during his second spell at the club. Therefore, some time between October 1960 and November 1961.

Note that the fees Celtic got for Bobby Collins and Willie Fernie paid for the floodlights at Celtic Park.
Strange footnote to that piece?

Then again, 1950's WofS, so perhaps an attempt to appease and prepare the Hun hordes in the very, very, very unlikely event?

Anyway, Fernie to the Buenoses, the pre-Huns, just wouldn't have come to pass anyway.

A great player who was compared favourably to Patsy Gallacher in his day. Also a great family man.
