Very interesting still, Celtic players chasing the ref round the pitch, could it catch on? Collum had better watch out
What is the story behind this picture?
sorry to go back to this one but would love to find out more about this match, for instance, did they catch him?
There's a close up picture of the honest mistake the ref made in not awarding the penalty.
The pic just looks like a normal action shot with the Motherwell keeper diving to save the ball.
Until you realise he's the defender, not the keeper.

I'll try and dig it out.

I was at that match, we were beyond inept that day, their second goal was from a corner which any half competent defence would have dealt with, but still we left the ground thinking we could go through because they were no great shakes either. One drama filled night at Paradise later and we were through thanks to the Maestro and John Collins.
Sorry to be a pedantic arsehole, but was it not the first goal that came from a corner?

If memory serves me right did we not play them at home in front of a smaller crowd the following midweek ? I was at both these games. Only diehards went in those dark days. :ynwa:
Spot on !

Was at both those games ,at least the Gorbals got to cheer a young Brian Coyne on ,sadly
that was it for Brian at Celtic ,he went on to Motherwell and Shrewsbury where he still lives
I believe.

For some reason I was at the cinema (the pic-churs) and came home to discover that the Bankies had pumped us 3-2.

That was a bad season but that was probably the worst defeat :ffs:
At that one as well. The really unusual, bad defeats stay with you......
Was at both games with Bankies too.

The one at CP was surreal - sunny evening, so remember standing out in the Celtic End rather than Jungle. It was pick-a-crush barrier-time -take any one you want.

That great thread from last year on 77-78 season  Everyone should get a t-shirt as "Survivors of 77-78"

But to really put things in perspective about how far we'd fallen, look at the paper after losing at Kilbowie - the match report is squeezed in there right next to the junior fitba, dug racing and amateur golf :ffs:

that was a season :ffs: went to a fair amount of the games for the first time that year.... it wasn't easy. Still too young for the Old Firm games (remember them?) that would be the following season. Do you have a link for that thread you mentioned.. I cant find it in the search? wouldnt mind a read at that... cheers. The tshirts wouldnt cost too much as the crowds did drop!!

I could find it either - looked back for last nine months.
But found it with a google search on Celtic's nightmare season 1977-78.

A quick look at google newspapers shows that Sportsreel was on that night so presumably it was shown but I've never seen those goals.
