Quoting limited to 3 levels deepPosted Image
Went on holiday in 1987 and met an ex Aberdeen player who shall remain nameless.

He was pissing himself at us signing the big man who was then 32.

He said that Starky was the last guy he'd want to be in the trenches with.

After two or three games I realised yer man didn't have a clue what he was talking about.

Billy was a real thoroughbread who had a football brain and why you'd want him 'in the trenches' was beyond me.

He also said that Aberdeen had the next Jinky - Joe Miller :ffs: and he arrived at Parkhead within weeks later.
Yeah. Complete obsession with "being in the trenches" in Scottish football.

With Billy Stark, that's like using a Ferrari to pull a caravan.

Edit. Wondering if the ex-Aberdeen player was Neale Cooper?...
Nah, much further back than Neale Cooper !

I can only think, judging from the empty jungle, that it is the Athletico Madrid game played behind closed doors because of
the rapid game, but it doesn't look like Athletico Madrid.

The 4 and 5 look like Levein and Hogg :boxer:

No idea about the empty jungle though.

Reserve game against the huns?

Didn't somebody try to shoot one of them.

With an airgun.

Ooft, love the 60s/70s colour pics.

Can any of the old timers help, is it Third Rangers, I know they died, but, can't recall who they are.

Have you ran out of Bernie's, Elvis?
Bernie was on to me and warned me to stop stalking him
Loved the stuff you've posted buddy.

The 'Bernie Series', was a funny extra.

You'll need to find another random ex pro, who supported us, but, didn't play for us, to post In various Celtic poses.

I thought you would have ended the series with Caesar lifting the big cup, with a photo shopped Bernie in the background

Well from what I can see the shirt we are wearing looks like it's from around about 1980/1, there's no sponsor on it, which would mean the opposition players aren't Hogg and Levein.

The keeper looks a bit like Nicky Walker, so the story about the air gun might carry, and the opposition shirts could be the hun from about 84/5. The fact you can't see if they have a sponsor doesn't help!

I can only presume that if it is that game then we weren't contracted to wearing sponsorship for any games other than first team, and were so tight with money that any old strips would do for the reserves.

Actually there's probably not enough of a mullet for it to be Walker and it looks more like Bobby Geddes, also the opposition player facing the camera has a strip that looks like it has some kind of detail across it which looks more like Dundee than the hun.

^^^

Definitely not Levein: the Celtic strip is from the period 1979-1982, and Levein didn't join Hearts until 1983.

Could it be a league match from 1979-80 with a midweek daytime KO? :ponder:

The player on the right barely in shot could be a young Davey Moyes, I'm basing that on his curly hair.

Judging by the goalies' Nike boots I'd date this around mid 80's, Alex Mathie or Tony Shephard shooting?

Whoever the opposition, going by the keeper's shorts they are wearing an Adidas strip: that rules out Deidco, Scumbos, Dundee and Falkirk. Only Scottish team I can find with an Adidas kit at that time thus far is St. Johnstone.

I'm going to say its the Orlando Lions game and it's in the second half after we changed kit to get rid of some old ones as opposed to swapping away current season kits.

I would've said Dundee or Hearts. Both their strips had the distinctive pipping around the seams. The keeper for me is Bobby Geddes.

For some reason, we are not wearing a period strip. Maybe one of the centre halves looks like Whittaker

Those strips still had a sponsor on them, we changed into kit circa 83/84 for that second half.

A friend of mine was on the bench that day, came on in the second half, he told the story of Neil Mochan going spare when he found out about the jersey swap "you're not giving away my good strips!!" was his quote I believe, Big Billy was wearily shaking his head as the old ones were handed out.
