Very staged picture imho, Jock almost looks embarrassed that he beat Celtic to win the Cup for Dunfermline.

Pretty sure the 3rd team played there back in the days of the Combined Reserve League, which featured renowned outfits like Glasgow Corporation Transport.

Saw youths play deadco in Glasgow cup tie there . Must have been mid 90s.
Simon Donnelly. Brian McLaughlin. Shay Given were in the youth team at the time.

Horrible pitch.
Even tried to play on it myself in a works game. Hated every minute.

yes they did - maybe late 80s - and pretty sure we've had pics on this thread of McGhee/McInally/McClair training on it.

Played on it myself in mid80s and left half my backside on with a slide tackle - the short shorts of the 80s were not much protection either.

One of the first astros in Glasgow, really hard, made that one at East End Park look like Augusta.

If memory serves it was also the home park of an amateur team called Calton Cosmos

I know Walker can talk a load of shampoo when commentating on our matches but I would take that strikeforce over our current lot anyday.
Hmmmm. Given that the strike force of season 1989/90 (in other words this photo) was the worst since 1947 I'm going to have to disagree with you on this one.
Dziekanowski is without doubt the biggest waste of talent I ever saw at Celtic, he had almost everything, two great feet, perfect first touch, vision. The only things he lacked were ability in the air and any kind of heart. The latter was killer, his head was the first to drop in apressure situation, I remember the Maestro having to drag him by the neck to take a penalty in the 1990 cup final shoot out.
He joined Bristol City in January 1992, his first game was an FA cup game the BBC covered, Tony Gubba was the commentator, at one point he asked how Celtic could possibly have let this guy go, my own thoughts were "Give it another two games" right enough he pretty much vanished soon after.

You've got 'Jackie' - sorry, Disco Tex - to a tee.

How can one man give us four goals in a European game and then bottle it at Hampden against the Sheep?

A wasted talent.

Andy Walker's Celtic goal record speaks for itself though, even if it wasn't 80-90, not to mention goals he got at Bolton after his knee injury.

Tommy Coyne was a top Premier League scorer with Dundee before we got him an Motherwell after us. A very clever player who was not really appreciated. But since he went to the WC in 1994 with the Republic (while playing for Well) and starred in win over Italy, in the same season we were paying Wayne Biggins to play up front.......... well, that tells you all you want to know about Celtic in the early 1990s

Tommy Coyne was a real mystery, signed by Big Billy, but he never seemed to trust him.
A couple of weeks later we had the whole Merde debacle as we paraded that little snake as a big signing, so presumably the manager saw the front line for that season as Coyne and Johnston. Can't see that one myself.

But you cannot argue Coyne's goal record from November 1990 onwards.

Ditto Walker, his scoring record was always decent and he had a good mentality for big games.

The problem that season was the supply; Joe Miller was poor, Hewitt never settled, Burns was spent, Stark was injured, Grant never got over his bout of Hep which left McStay to do it all, we also had the added bonus of a witch hunt against Aitken and a defence that couldn't fight sleep. Not a fun time and possibly not the best time to buy my first season book.

the first team used to train there twice a week. You could actually go in an watch them, as I did on many occasion while dodging work in my cooncil job. They used to pile into a transit van driven by Jimmy Johnstone. Two memories I have is of them leaving Packie Bonner behind so he had to walk back to Parkhead and the day Roy Aiyken left his trainers behind him. A perfect fit Roy. I never did get round to thanking you in person :)

Red ash was luxury.
Real tough bhoys played on black ash.
Places like Dasholm or Glenconnor were horrible.

I remember the first team pre season training there around 76, big Jock taking them.
Also Dalglish training with the reserves in 77 before his move to Liverpool while the
first team went to play a tourney in Australia.
Was a grass park back then with square goalposts like the old Hampden.

Used to love a game on it. Wasted it with the fancy Astroturf nonsense though
at the time when it was first laid, you had to book weeks in advance. Celtic used well
into the eighties now and again

that's the day when "we won the league for Johnny Doyle!" :Bye: v Saints.
Also the last day of the season where if we lost and aberdeen beat rangers by 5, aberdeen won the league. Pretty sure it was 4-0 at pittodrie at ht. Never referred to when reference made to love street 4 years later.
