This is the Scotland line up before the opening World Cup group game in 1974 against Zaire.

It's in Dortmund - the ground Deidco modelled Ibrox rebuild on - and then Borussia filled in corners and added upper tier later.

Team shamefully contains no Jimmy Johnstone, who'd torn England apart few weeks earlier - Scotland went out on goal difference, because they only beat Zaire 2-0 and Brazil beat them 3-0 in last game while we were drawing with Yugoslavia.

Talk about negative :nono: that's what happens when you leave out one of the best players of his generation - 3rd in Euro footballer of year in 67 - and Scotland even had a 2-0 early on and sat back :ffs:

If anyone can help, can't place guy in middle of back row.

(l-r) keeper David Harvey, Jim Holton (RIP), ?, Danny McGrain, John Blackley.
(front): Kenny Dalglish, Sandy Jardine, Peter Lorimer, Billy Bremner, Davie Hay and Denis Law

Don't think that's the Zaire game; no Tommy Hutchinson in the pic... mightn't it be one of the pre-tournament friendlies we played?

For younger readers, this is Swinecastle looking towards what is now Wheatfield Stand , opposite main stand. That's the brewery behind the wall and to the right would have been the covered part of Gorgie terrace where Jambos stood - but not at Celtic games cos we took it over.

Segregation in late 70s - you can see fence there - meant the Celtic support got punted to the uncovered terracing behind this goal (what is now Gorgie stand at other end of ground where Celtic fans go now).

This looks like 80-81 judging by Celtic strip (with McGrain) and fact that Bonner is in goal, with Makr Reid on back post and Tom McAdam stooping over. So probably Jan 81 when we won 3-0.

We also beat them 6-0 at our place in April on our way to the title which was memorable cos Alex MacDonald was playing in midfield and got a right run around.

The Diets also got relegated that season - deja vu
