I long for Celtic Men in our team, I don't care about bank balances, our current footing in the game, Global branding, how good our new sponsor is! Just give us guys we can relate to and who know what it means to us, a picture that says it all, emotionally Celtic

I've seen that picture a few times and I really love it.

Reminds me of being young and going to Ibrox and us winning with frequency.

I always wonder what game it is?... :ponder:

It must be early. I think I saw the picture originally in a Playing for Celtic book from about season '81/'82...

was this from the game in 81, where Charlie Nich got the winner and just about gave us the title?

and more importantly, why are the guys in the front row sitting down when everyone's signing YNWA? miserable gits or Deidco in disguise?

That brings the memories flooding back.

I know what we have now is a thousand times better, but I miss that old stadium.

Not saying it was a beautiful stadium by any stretch, but by the time that pic was taken it was nowhere near as bad as people will tell you, although the surrounding area was an absolute dump.

Ruined many a pair of trainers walking back through the top of Janefield Street in the rain.

if it's 81-82 it will be the first one at Ibrox, Sept 81, 2-0 win with Tom McAdam and Murdo MacLeod. Remember going off to Turin for Juve soon after that :nono:

Was that the one when the Govan stand was being built? :ponder:

I was a kid at the time, and memory seriously fails me...

I always had it in my head that this was the 4-2 game in '83, but it can't be for a number of reasons.

The style of fashion in the crowd looks a bit too early for that, and the 4-2 game was blazing sunshine. This looks a wee bit overcast.

I just think it is somewhere between '81 and '82.

St Ants,Calton......can we set the record straight here....Im reading this that you are both saying that Celtic wore the hoops before the Ants.Widni like to be the one who breaks it to Felik and the rest of the McKennas!! :twitch: :boxer:

:ponder: I'm with you on this one JP, I was in 'the room' last season and admired the old battered framed photo with Tommy McInally in the Ants hoops, Felix and Co were quick to remind me who wore them first

to be honest, I actually preferred it before they did up the Celtic end and you could walk from the Jungle if it was too packed and go into the Celtic end - great nights there when we won the league in 79 and beat Real Madrid in 1980

Im sure the one when the Govan stand was being built was 79-80.
I remember the game where we drew 2-2 early on, and I think we came from 2-0 down with late goals from Sneddon and McAdam, and just seeing the bare open side across the park because we were in the enclosure under the main stand (when we used to get given that.)'

When did the fence go up? Because I don't think I can really ever recall being able to walk right the way around.

Up until about early 1985 I went in the front stand with my uncle and his mates, then I moved onto the terracing.

I think the fence went up in 1984.

That old Celtic end roof (not the one in the picture) was rubbish though. It was made out of wafer biscuits and was so short that the wind blew the rain right back in at you.

Practically useless.

You could well be right, but I know that they did the Copeland and the free Broomloan first, and I don't thing they were much earlier than that.

Neil Berry other Hearts player.
Black :boik: going for the ball :suspect: - A hun if ever there was one - Playing career includes Deid Bassas/Family Club/Diets and Airdrie and he is now assistant to The Mullet at the Family Club.
Time to own up here- I always hated Kenny Black throughout his playing career for the very reasons you mentioned CB, but having met him a few times down the years, he's always come across as an ok guy. :ph43r:

That's me said that about 2 ex-huns in the last week or so. Before anyone raises any doubts, I've also met Colin Stein and can confirm that he is a total floof.
