Hughie was a great player but didn't play for Celtic.

Real tragic tale that one. :(
Forgive my ignorance CB, I assumed he was the Hugh Gallagher that was mentioned in the 'Alaphet'.

John Cushley.
Build like the proverbial brick shampoohouse - Jim Forrest of the huns was Cesar's nemesis - John Cushley could handle Forrest and he became Forrest's nemesis.

A clever well educated man with Language degree and went on to become a teacher s well as being Celtic's Education Officer.

A great guy but not one you would mess with.

Sadly succumbed to MND the same as Jinky and by coincidence is buried about 25 yards away from Jinky in Bothwellpark.

One of the bravest things I have seen was Tommy Burns give the eulogy at John's Funeral and say he hoped he had the same courage and inner strength as John when by this time not many knew but Tam knew his number was almost certainly up. :(

John's father was Ned Cushley whose name you will see cropping up from time to time ce

In all fairness, the lads in the picture have a more university look about them than a Glasgow ned feel, yere lucky that ye didn't come up against us Limerick Ultras, we had a fearsome reputation.

That's definitely Hughie Gallacher of Newcastle United, very early in his career, probably Airdrie.

No picture in the 'Alaphet', CB, given as making only one appearance. States that he made his rep down in England, so he couldn't be the HG in the picture?

I a m fairly sure he that pic is the Airdrie/Newcastle/Wembley Wizard player but was wanting to double check.

He lost his wife young and hit the drink - Cracked his son with a bottle and basically when he realised what he had done couldn't live with himself and eventually walked in front of an Express train. :(

We got him from Queens Park after he did well against us in the cup.

Pacy winger, nice lad.

He moved onto Dunfermline in 89 and I'm sure he played in their cup defeat of Souness' forces of darkness
Definitely was involved in Dunfermline beating the huns in the Cup although not sure when it was.

Occasional Substitute

A rare snap of the Old Firm from 1913 ahead of an exhibition match played at Thistle Park in Inverness. The game, played before a crowd of just 3000, ended in a 0-0 draw.

They should have beat us that day.

Also mind one guy singing where did you get those strips on his own.
we went up to most games in those days , 5 of us from stranraer all celtic fans and we were shampooting ourselves incase stranraer won and we had to go home and face them , stranraer brought up about 2000 that day i think and most of them huns , remember the striker from stranraer bruce cleland i think his name was was playing in one of his last games before emigrating to oz and a big hun missed a sitter near the end
Was looking at that pic but it was the Stranraer CH I remember sure he played for Motherwell joe something
Incidentally Bruce Clelland never emigrated, well not straight away anyway I played in the EK Juniors team with him the following season, I was 16 and he's was giving it the big I am....well until I reminded him about his penalty miss....tit :naught:
