Wish we had shown some of that spirit last night. :arrr:
Dave Smith saving Johansen from taking a severe second prize from Davie Hay.

Even Wee Bobby looks as if he is going to have a word with some hun :carrot: with Mathieson not sure wtf is happening.

That hun fud Wharton is the ref - When Wharton died the family were even selling off gear he had been presented by the huns.

I'm coming to the defence of Tom "Tiny" Wharton who was an official without peer. I get a bit fed up with the way he's sometimes characterised on KDS, largely based on that handshake photo with Greig (although whether he was a mason or not doesn't bother me in the slightest, afterall some of the greatest Celts, I suspect, have been in the craft!).

I had the privilege of meeting Wharton in a professional capacity seven or eight years before his death. As we chatted, it soon became evident where my allegiances lay. It also transpired that, like me, he was born and brought up in the East End of Glasgow.

"So, you're a Celtic man, then? Aah, my own boyhood heroes. Manys a time me and my pals would walk down to Celtic Park....." and off he went on a trip down memory lane to his visits to a pre-war Celtic Park.

It may not have been an affection he carried into adulthood, I have no way of knowing. I remember Wharton the referee and have no memory of Celtic fans (not even my late father) ever accusing him of being anti-Celtic (unlike his contemporary, Bobby Davidson!)
I have loads of recollections of auld school Tims and what they thought of Wharton - They thought he was a hun fud - You should hear what ex players like Auld or Cesar have to say about him.

Cgaf where he came from - For decades there were more huns living in and around Parkhead than Tims similarly there were plenty of good Tims down Govan - Being brought up in the East End means nothing as far as football is concerned except walking in certain areas could get you a sore face or tragically in the case of the young bhoy Mark Scott it cost him his life due to that coward Campbell.

Maybe Wharton did watch Celtic - I know for a fact Charlie Miller used to follow Celtic and attend games - He still ended up a hun fud.

Killie V Celtic, 1955 according to still, very impressive crowd, incredibly close to the action.
That is a great, but, really unusual, with no terracing etc. I think Fir Park, back in the day, had very no, to little terracing like that

Edit: here is a link to what Rugby Park looked like in 55, seems to be no real terracing opposite the main stand.

Fair to say I only started it to try and add some more images to my collection and get a few answers to images I was stuck on, the contributions from everyone have been incredible, and they keep coming daily, the images are great but the stories and knowledge provided by some to them are breathtaking :worthy:
Hopefully the tremendous and best Celtic resource The Wiki has benefitted in some way from it, keep them coming.

Definitely has, and like all others from the site, wish to hope this thread continues for a long time to come.

This thread helps our site and hope our site helps you guys out to.

Anyone need any help we'll always try to help.

For those on this thread who aren't forum members, I'd also recommend the CGS forum as that's great for Celtic history especially for queries.

Every Celtic fan I know from Wharton's era (myself included ) thought he was a biased masonic hun bastard.
