Yeah, just noticed that and Schillaci's not in the Italy squad. Late call ups?

I seem to remember the Argentina backup keeper came in for the suspended first choice and went all the way to the Final.

Yeah, that was great. Kids nowadays would just go "What's the point of having coins I can't top my mobile up with" or something.

I got all excited when I seen the title, I had a large WC folder/magazine in 1990, the inserts you got weekly in the build up to the WC and were split into subsections, it had a sticker section, info on each country, classic goals, background on the world cups before. Was immense, Granny Gradwell got it for me each week and at 11 years old was really my introduction to international football.

Used to bet my dad a packet of cheese an onion golden wonder on each match, he used to let me pick first and would take the draw as well as I had first choice, got bumped that summer. Cost me a good size 18 pack of crisps.

Exactly, it's exaggerated as hell by many English cause their side did well... Football was awful and the final was a travesty.

The first World Cup I really remember...was only 6/7 at the time.

Best memory must be me and my sister sitting in a pub in a caravan site in England cheering on the Germans in the semi-final. My dad has since admitted he thought he'd get lynched on the way home.

It was utter crap but it was my first world cup and so I loved it. Back in the days of no live football it was an utter joy to have so many games on - even if they were full of diving and cheating.

Italy should have won it. England were beyond jammy. They rose above even hun levels of jamminess.

God, it makes me feel old. I was doing my finals at uni during this world cup, took my final exam the day Republic beat Romania on penalties, just got into the pub to see the last few minutes of the game and the penalties.

I didn't enjoy the 1990 world cup for a few reasons. 1982 was magic, and 2006, but only because I was in Germany for a big chunk of it.

Awesome. Before France 98 the Guardian (I think) reprinted every Pannini World Cup album going back to 1970 it was excellent.
