As it says on the tin.

I'd go with:

...................Cech

Eboue Carragher King O'Shea

........Valencia Mikel Nani

.......Bendtner Owen Kalou

-----------------Van Der Saar------ (good keeper...just not THAT good)

Sagna-Carragher---Lescott-----Bridge (again with the full backs they're good just not as good as they're made out to be)

Malouda--Carrick---Mascherano--Walcott/Wright-Phillips

----------Berbatov---Crouch-------

Green

Richards - Upson - Lescott - Bridge

Walcott - Gerrard - Lampard - Barry

C. Cole - Heskey

There's an all-English one for you to chew on.

EDIT: Just to say to the post above, Sagna is awesome... IMO

steven gerrard would have to be in there somewhere.

he is an absolutely awesome player in some respects but a truly dreadful one in others.

he appears to have no football brain whatsoever. he just charges around the pitch like a mad bull, hitting insane 60-yard passes that almost always go sailing over the touchline and into the crowd.

he is the exact antithesis of someone like fabregas or scholes. fortunately for him his physical engine and fearsome shooting make up for his footballing lobotomy.

he is probably the most stereotypically english player i have ever seen -- all lungs and raw power, no intelligence or vision.

some aspects of his game are second to none, but you can't be considered a great player when you give the ball away as regularly and needlessly as he does.

it's weird watching him play for england -- it's as if he's realised that running around like a blue arsed fly won't pass muster at that level, but he can't figure out what to replace it with.

i have no idea how he's managed to get to 80-odd caps because he has contributed almost nothing to that team over the years.

No sitting on the fence now.

Agree in part...though wouldn't mind him at Celtic.

Shame Ronaldo.C is not still in the EPL. I could have a late night chuckle at the half dozen posters who would be clawing at their keyboards to write his name first.

You say Gerrard is over-rated then name Scholes as his opposite?

It really is quite sad. The trick is to pluck a world class player out of the air, write a few paragraphs rebuffing what is almost universal praise of said player's talent, therby proving what a football maverick and luminary you are, whose insight delves beyond the obvious in a way that only a true visionary could. :loel:

I think that just having the cheek to be English and known as a top footballer is enough to send some posters over the top.

Anyone who cant see that Steven Gerrard would walk into any midfield in any team in the world needs put in the corner with a pointy hat. He is a fantastic player.
Its interesting that the original poster included Eboube. In order to be overrated dont you need to be rated in the first place? I suggest he goes on an Arsenal forum and see what they say about that clown.

Rooney has done eff all when it counts by my book. I know all of you are going to disagree but that's an opinion I've held for ages now. I really think he can be a lot more than he shows.

I don't understand how why Gerrard is being compared to Fabregas and the others anyway.

There is no rules for an identikit top footballer and just because Gerrard might not mince around laying off others with deft flicks
and back heels you could argue just as equally that other midfielders mentioned do not offer the same overall end product that
Gerrard has consistently shown for years.

If ever a player is most likely to stand up with a minute to go and drag his team to victory then its Gerrard and to do that with the
frequency that he has done is phenomanal,

Yes he is English, no he doesn't haven't have the flair that other players in his position do, but he what he does do he does it better than
most players in the world.

In fact I am now angry with myself for actually having written this out, like I actually needed to bother wasting my finger energy explaining
why Gerrard is a great player.

I still need a bird, get me out of stupid situations like this.
