Like you said though, I'd prefer if he came in for the likes of McDonald, Caldwell, Brown who would free up money which would let TM get in his own players.

Isn't that some sort of admission of failure? I think he would putting those bids in on the basis that neither is a first-choice player, and he might suspect that TM is thinking of offloading them in January.

Anyway I think what holds good for Tony holds good for Strachan. It wasn't results for Southgate, it was attendances. If Gibson was a bit less patient they'd still be in the Premier League. His patience may well be honourable, but they're in the Championship now and he's never had a decent manager there, and his current appointment does nothing to buck the trend. If they think the football was bad under Southgate they don't know what's coming. Funnily enough, I've been thinking something much the same this afternoon.

In todays paper, it said that Strachan is going to put in a bid of 1.5m to try and secure the services of both of them.
