Not up for sale and Ashley has confirmed Hughton as permanent manager now.

He'll probably try move them on again in the summer if they get promoted.

I wonder if the rule of never appoint the caretaker will hold here :ponder:

Baffled me that he put them up for sale so publicly to begin with. I think giving Hughton the gig will backfire, though it's probably still a better idea than pandering to the "Geordie Nation" with the appointment of Keegan, Shearer etc etc etc

If they go up they will get £40M plus before a ball is kicked so buying them for £50M and hoping they stay up would guarantee another windfall the following pre-season. If they win the championship they wont be short of bidders

IMO ;)

I suspect that Ashley possibly recognised that a certain Scottish bank-run club might be sold for much much less than the knock down price he would have been prepared to accept for Toon.

I'm new. Be gentle.
The shenanigans at St James Park just keep rumbling on. Im suprised that no-one came in and bid for them but to be honest the club has been a bit of a national joke for a couple of years. The Geordie faithful will be up in arms im in no doubt about the prospect of a sponsor getting naming rights to the stadium and they are right in doing so. It is usually a tactic applied to new-build grounds so do to it at a historic stadium beggars belief.

In terms of the owner and manager, I'm pretty happy to be honest. We're top of the league and avoiding any massive shake up between now and the end of the season is a good thing, and an unusual thing around newcastle it must be said. Dip in form in recent weeks was hopefully turned around last weekend and the team are back on track, fingers crossed. I'm not sure about Hughton, he's miles behind the managers who got promoted last season, but so far he's done well this season, doing much better than most on here expected ;)
I'd be devastated if Newcastle sold the name of the stadium though. I understand money needs to be brought in, but it's a historic stadium, built in 1892. It's name should not change, and hopefully they'll find other ways of making money.
By the way, according to wiki, St James' is owned by the freemen of Newcastle. Will this make it any more difficult for the club to change it's name? I presume it would :ponder:

SSN reported this morning that Hull City were in deep financial trouble with the banks. Also, in the last few days, big questions have been asked about the debt's owed by both Liverpool and Man Utd. Add the problems of Portsmouth and West Ham, and the fact that no-one is interested in buying Newcastle, and it's very plain to see that even in the relentless gravy train that is the Premiership/ Championship, clubs are lining up to go bust if the Banks choose to exert pressure.
So what would make the Huns different? Long may their Denial continue. They are one of many.

At least with Man U and Liverpool they have assets worth millions on their playing staff, so I can't see them going to the wall, they will have to cut costs I'd assume though.

No great interest in Newcastle but I am pleased for Chris Hughton. He seems a decent genuine bloke who has been through a lot at that shambles of a club.
I wish him well.

Was at the game and Saturday and it has to be said, I think you're in the minority if you're happy with Mike Ashley! He seems to be doing the right thing, to be honest, by pumping money into them again, and the manager, despite the choice being a bit suspect (?) is doing well. Newcastle have are a good side, should definitely head straight back up.

I read that again and it looks wrong to how I meant it. I am in no way, no way, happy with Ashley. Can't stand the man. What I meant to say is I'm okay with it all being put off to the end of season, that we just concentrate on the football and deal with all teh upheaval during the summer.
