Was my favourite player as a nipper, had his name on my top and everything. Was gutted when he left and so excited bout his return. Then he did the unthinkable, have detested the man ever since. First cut is indeed the deepest! |

The old board made a right mess of this one and could have put le petite merde right out of football. His transfer from Nantes back to Celtic was disputed but FIFA found in Celtic's favour. With lpm reluctant to complete his move to Celtic the old board were desperate to get their £300,000 deposit back. He was a Celtic player as far as FIFA were concerned, we could have punted him on anywhere. Instead with the old farts dithering Souness and McMurdo's masterplan went into action and we know the rest. Good to know that North American hoops still dish out the verbals to lpm with his Richard Park like midAtlantic accent. |

oddball you take this far too seriously Rossanne. you'd attack someone in the street just because they played for Rangers? That doesn't make you a bad person, simply a moron every bit as bad as some of the 'huns' you claim to hate personally i have nothing against the guy. I was only 7 when the whole thing happened and my only real memory of it comes from the rather hilarious Only An Excuse skit. My main memory of Johnston is of me running round the playground trying to 'do a Mo' and almost cracking my head open attempting an overhead kick |

I was sitting at the poolside bar on holiday in Benidorm when this rangers fan from Belfast told me that Johnston had signed for them. We'd been winding each other up (in a good natured way - this guy was no orange hun) for a few days and I thought he was at it yet again. He seemed happy that the huns had really got one over on us and I was incredulous. A quick phone call home confirmed the news. It took me a long time to get over it but I don't bear Johnston any ill will now. There are much more important things in life. |

Was on holiday with the family when the story broke. I still remember the feeling in my stomach when the phone call to a mate confirmed it to be true. Obviously time takes away the raw nature of the hurt but I still detest him - I wish only the worst for him - the little snake |

Disagree Wigwam, because in my opinion, Billy would have probably been unsurprised with the board's attitude, however I think MJ's decision, was personal rather than a business affront. Just my opinion. |

Wrong. He soiled a Celtic strip that day. And it wasn't "a few days before he signed for the huns" - it was a few months before. The pic below was a week or two before we beat them 1-0 in the 1988-89 Cup Final. ![]() There's no doubt he's going to the bad fire for what he did (and deservedly so) but the blow struck at the time by Der Hun poaching him set us back years. It broke big McNeill - he was never the same again, and we finished joint 5th the following season, only finishing clear of Scottish Fitba giants Hibs and Murderwell on goal difference. Indeed, we were only 10 points clear of relegated Dundee whilst 17 behind Der Hun. Whilst Le Merde wasn't exactly innocent for his part, he was still a pawn of sorts in a game orchestrated by Souness and Sir Moonbeam. I've said this before, but if you ever see the TV coverage of the press conference don’t look at Le Merde walking in the door - clock Murray. He's glancing all around the room at the assembled slabbering lapdogs with that smug jowly grin of his - the same one that's been conspicuous by it's absence in recent years. *That's* what it was all about for him and Souness - kicking us when we were already down. Sadly, thanks to nepotistic incompetence, it would take us until The Bunnet got his arse in the big chair for us to get our act together. As for Le Merde, playing in France definitely improved him as a player, and I was delighted that we looked to re-signing him - even though I never liked him the first time around - I preferred McClair. Going to Ipox, however, wasn't particularly good for his career (not that coming back to Celtic at the time would've been either) but who gives a flying feck about the wee scrotes career now? Ended up at Brockville - says it all... JJ Edited by junglejamesie, 5 Jul 2009, 10:04 PM.

thats a very sensible post, given the nature of the beast..... we definitely announced it a few weeks before the cup final, and I think he was at our last game of the season at love street in the stands iirc. and the top was a Christopher New sweater from gilmore's meanswear, costing about £300 at the time, some phannies even bought one or two to be like mo.... the signing of le petite merde was the catalyst for change, and with 20 years of life's ups and downs, it doesnt seem as bad as it did then. In the great scheme of things, he helped the huns win 9IAR, without his signing it would likely have been a step too far for them, but his signing gave them a knowing sense of superiority that they were so far ahead of us they could now even take one of our best ex-players, from under our noses. It was the darkest of dark days as a celtic supporter old enough to fully understand the ramifications of it. But, it also was the beginning of the end for the old board, and was the catalyst for change at celtic. For that I shall be forever grateful. |

Couldn't get over it at the time, but it wasn't ~just~ the fact that he'd signed for them. It was also the way he behaved in general, like it was just all a big joke. |

I'd suggest you read my posts properly before you start calling me an oddball, moron or, worse, compare me to a hun. And btw, I don't "claim" to hate them, I do hate them, categorically!I did not say I would attack him in the street because he played for Rangers, I would though attack him for betraying Celtic. Like I say, if that makes me a bad person... I won't bore everyone by repeating the rest. Yes, I do take betrayal seriously, if you don't, that is your lookout. If you have nothing against the treacherous little shampooe, good for you, you're entitled to that opinion. Just check your facts before you misrepresent one of my posts.

I was on holiday in Donegal. My first thought was 'Thank feck I didn't buy one of those t-shirts they were seeling at the cup final". The board have to take the blame for me on this one. They might not have been able to secure Johnston's move back to Parkhead but they could certainly have stopped the move to the Huns. Instead they handed a PR coup to the Huns on a plate. Here are a couple on entries on the KDS Wiki about Judas. KDS Wiki - Player Page Soul of Celtic |

To be honest the guy is a non entitiy now. But I remember the day he signed for them... was walking past the social in springburn when this spikey haired little sausage jockey (Peter Barr was his name if I remember rightly) ran up the stairs to me, a mixture of delight and despair that they had screwed us but signed a catholic. (sort of like trusting a fart but follow following through) Anyways I kicked the little turd back down the stairs, so result |
