We are now seeing a new, honest approach to media relations from a Celtic manager- in sharp contrast to Strachans. I think its refeshing to listen to interviews that are not patronising with accurate content. Big Tony seems to be genuinely respected by the press. However, I think that his open style may present issues further down the line, especially if results do not go as we hope they will. The press always paint a negative picture and Tony gives them plenty of information. Take the McManus and captaincy interview for example. It could have been written with a negative headline which has the potential to create conflict with the player. This post is not a moan- I like the approach after the Strachanisation of Celtic in the media over the last 4 years. However, big Tony would do well to adopt the Strachan give little away policy in interviews at the same time as maintaining his own dignified manner.

Any thoughts?

I CGAF how the press interpret anything he says to them - it's what he says to the team and the supporters that matters to me. I hope he never thinks that our heads zip up the back.

Kerrydale Street is the modern Celtic related press, to read anything else or take their opinions to heart is futile.

The contrast is with the last two managers and not just with Strachan. The McManus story is an example of how they work, they pick up the negativity coming from Celtic fans towards McManus and set an agenda about the captaincy after two days training in pursuit of a cheap headline.Mowbray isn't cynical but he might have to learn to be in his dealings with them if he wants to avoid that kind of stuff every week.

Couldn't care less how the manager treats pre match press conferences. I do, however, want a bit of honesty when he is discussing a match in a live interview when his words cannot be edited or spun.

Exactly. I didn't want to hear individual players getting singled out for treatment but I wanted to hear words like "that performance was unacceptable" not Strachan's stock phrases which pissed everyone off.

I do think that strachan did quickly realise that the press couldent wait to dig the dirt maybe that why he acted that way . But his comments after we got beat were pathetic he was like a wee boy who lost his toy and he was watching a different game from us . i think big tony will have more decorum than that i dont think he will give them any ammunition (sorry if wrongl spelling) to fire at us

I dont read the press. Although I bought a SH today. Just to read with brekky. However to say that we do not care is something of a side issue. The fact they can create a story from nothing can create unwanted attention and unwanted pressure.
I do like Mowbrays style tho. However I think he was too open with regards the new captain. I think McManus needs a rocket and this is the time to give him it. However I can see their wee spin doctors working on this one already. It will be no surprise if they try to grab this and make an issue from it.

I like Remy, look forward to the post match interview or even pre-match interviews. Watching CU and the pre-Seville interview with Mr O'Neill was superb. I dont want to restart the tired debate on this.

I'd go a bit further than that Remy...

I didn't get upset when Kenny dragged them all along to Bairds, I didn't get upset when Strachan treated them with utter contempt, and I won't care how if Mowbray is the nicest guy in the world to them. I don't really care whether he feeds them the biggest pile of shyte after a game either, or is completely open and honest.

The Celtic manager's job isn't to act a certain way with the press, it isn't to explain everything to 60,000 supporters, and it isn't to be completely honest to the media about how well we've played (or not).

As long as we have a winning team that plays entertaining football the majority of the time, that's all I'm really bothered about.

I would be quite happy if we refused to speak to every single one of them and released statements via our own website and released said statements to trusted online messageboards.

I agree but given the standard of posters on here we would be free to disect what is actually said as opposed to disecting the crap that is already spun to suit the weekends events.

He's a breath of fresh air. Honesty is always the best policy, and folk need to get used to that. Everybody takes spin/lies for granted these days which is wrong. Respectfully call a spade a spade and be done with it. Sometimes we'll not like what he says but that unfortunately is life. Problems like the captaincy and McManus cause more problems when they are not addressed or spoken of. The bigotry around RFC is a classic example of unspoken problems, which noody should really need pointing out.

It will be interesting to see how this develops.

Strangely or against the grain the Sunday Mail puts positive spin on the captaincy story while the broadsheets suggest that McManus is about to get bombed.

All interpreted (or advised) from the same quotes.

The comments on the Brisbane game aren't great PR for what is mainly a PR trip.

The quicker that they get conferences up on the official website the better which will allow supporters to make their own judgement rather than someone else's take on it.

He's not embarrassing like Strachan. But there's no need to be too open. Hope Mick has responded okay to the captain thing being out in the open.

The popular press in this country, indeed in most countries,is not a reliable conduit of information from the source to the readers and surely that is the main function of a free press.

So,I tend to agree that it's not too important how the manager of Celtic FC treats the football press. The trouble I have is wondering where,we the supporters can get the true facts from.

The press will turn against Mowbray in due course just like they do with every Celtic manager. Not paranoia just fact. Strachan was the media's darling before he came up here with his witty asides and acerbic humour. Fast forward a year when he had put the huns in their rightful place and he was feeding the laptop loyal with nothing he suddenly becomes an annoying little bugger who treats their delicate wee souls with nothing but contempt. Mowbray will get the treatment soon enough. He'll be too dour or he'll lack charisma to inspire the players. Some crap will be manufactured to have a go at him while the man with no surname goes serenely about his business on the other side of the city.

Anybody who has the misfortune to be able to log in to FF will know that Wattie was being absolutely castigated on there for the majority of last year that made Strachan's treatment on here seem like a little gentle teasing. Yet that was conveniently ignored by the local hacks whilst at the same time they played up the increasing divide between Strachan and the support with the added bonus of a sectarian agenda implied because he wisnae ' Celtic minded'. Mowbray will know the script up here so it won't be too great a shock when his honeymoon period will be soon up.

I quite liked the us and them mentality that Strachan tried to create at times. It reflects the truth, we shouldn't be appeasing the journos as they are so quick to turn on us it's unreal.

Celtic got slated for signing players like Moravcik and Larsson but the huns show intelligence by spening 5 million on 2 unproven players with money they do not have?

Mogga is handling the media fine but I'm sure there was a few issues when results weren't going his way at Hibs.
