Who then? Bottom line is at the moment we don't have a leader on the pitch. No-one Loovens at a push, but I'm convinced Mick is not going to be our captain next season, he is simply not up to it, he has proved that, next season is a re-building season, new manager putting his style on the team takes time so maybe we will see a new captain emerge from the coming season, me Scot Brown in a year. He's our best player he has it all to do next season IMO

I think Mowbray was basically saying he's everything in the right place for captaincy, but nothing about meriting a starting place. Couple of seasons sans armband for McManus could be enough to let him concentrate on playing for the team rather than leading it.

Hartley or JVOH for me.
Hartley is away to Bristol City. Can't see JVoH returning either.

The one thing that is clear just now is that they are both away mhate - Mowbray is official on that one that they are not being offered contract renewals.

As much as i dont like defenders as captain, i just cant see anyone else stepping up. Maybe Robson if fit as his blistering lack of place means he should be rooted in midfield and be able to shout at everyone from there okay.

Caldwell is the ONLY current player we have capable of being captain.........not that it is a vital position to fill...Christ Tom Boyd was Captain and hardly kciked a ball for some time.

McManus not being Celtic captain can only be good for us. Never was, is or ever will be Celtic captain material.

Caldwell for me

If Tony Mowbray decides not to have McManus as captain for the coming season it seems likely the captain is yet to be signed. McManus may not be everyones choice for captain but out of the current squad he is by far the best candidate.

The captain tosses the coin, wears an armband, and gets to talk to the referee.

Other than that, it's utterly meaningless. I doubt it has the slightest impact on how a professional footballer acts on the pitch, either in terms of his personality and his ability.

That was my point as well.

Having a specific captain isn’t all that important. More important is not treating the role as such importance that the captain then becomes someone that can’t be dropped.

I can see the point of having a "club" captain to say, represent the playing staff and indeed the club when required.
