He might do well to give up the captaincy for a while. He seemed to be weighed down by the responsibility.

Right call IMO.

Not so much the fact he is captain but the fact that as captain there is a feeling that he has to get played. Mcmanus was quite poor last year and should of been dropped on a few occasions. It was the fact he was captain that saved him from losing his place to Loovens, and maybe eve O'dea.

How did we have no leaders when MON left?

Lennon, Petrov, Balde, Thompson, Sutton, even Hartson and Varga.

Brown, Boruc, effing McGeady??
You're all off your heads.

Good players, probably our best, and for as long as they stay at the club should probably be first choices. But none of them are captain material, none of them. They're hardly model pros - Arthur doesn't need explaining, Brown has yet to master the English language and McGeady is a petulant moany faced wee bastard at the best of times.
If not Mick, then Caldwell. They're the only two candidates at the club now IMO.
100% correct mate. Anyone who would consider any of that three as captain of Celtic are seriously deluded.

Maybe, just maybe, Brown might come into contention in a couple of years time (if he matures sufficiently).

Artur or Aiden as skipper? :cuckoo:

Out of any of those players, I'd only class Petrov as Captain material, and I include Lennon in that.

I still think the captain issue was one of the reasons he left, he was longest serving player and should have been captain. Had we not been utterly destroyed in Strachan's first game, I think he would have been captain.

I'd certainly trust Lennon, Petrov, and Sutton with the captaincy, and the others wouldn't have been bad players to turn to either.

I always thought McManus lacked a bit of gravitas on account of his relative youth. At least being prepared to make a change is a good sign that Mowbray is looking at the issues that affected us last season.

Maybe he will put lack of height on his list of changes to consider.

Dont know who the captain will be next term a player already at the club or still to sign.

I have a feeling he will go with Caldwell and Loovens at the back though unless he signs A N other.
One of our own.
That'd be a proud day for KDS

Sorry I'm late to this thread...

Thanks for backing me in my quest to be Celtic Captain.

I think Mowbray was basically saying he's everything in the right place for captaincy, but nothing about meriting a starting place. Couple of seasons sans armband for McManus could be enough to let him concentrate on playing for the team rather than leading it.

Hartley or JVOH for me.
