As much as I loved PM as a player, I would be worried if he joined the management team that TM seems to be building... there are very few proven winners in there.
Was Jock Stein a proven winner, Alec Ferguson. Jose Mourinho ?
I think I understand what you are trying to say :ponder: but at some point in your career in fitba you can become a winner surely.

absolute legend but not needed around the team! imo it would probably be detremental to the team having a player didn't win that much as a player! would rather keep lennon who knows what it is about to win tropheys at Celtic Football Club

Aye, former players who are proven winners. That's the key.

Like...em..Mourinho, Wenger or Moyes? With their glittering, medal strewn careers as players?

The Maestro, is, was and always will be my favourite ever Celtic player. If there was a place for Paul at Celtic, what a boost.

To have a man that could pass the ball the way Paul did coaching our players could only be a good thing. The man is Celtic to me.
no offence, but whats the relevance of Paul's passing ability to a coaching position?

kenny dalglish was probably the best scottish player ever produced and he couldnt coach to save his life.

it seems to be the case that players with all the ability in the world struggle as coaches, likely because they cant explain the gift they were given. Those who had to work hard to play the game seem to find it much easier to express that to current players. Stein and Ferguson being the most obvious examples of that.

Finding a place for Paul McStay could only be positive for Celtic. Whether anything comes of it, I am impressed with the way Mowbray has started off, being firm with Boruc, cutting our wage bill, and  getting the Maestro involved.

I think there was some suggestion that there was a parting of the ways between Celtic and the Maestro when he retired and a bit of ill-feeling, hence his near-invisibility from all things football related until the last year or two.

He definitely seems to be more 'connected' with the club now than at any point since his retiral in any case. Paul McStay is my all-time Celtic hero (at the age of 34 I was a gibbering mess when I met him FFS) and provided he's got the chops as a coach I'd love to have him on the staff, albeit I think the first-team bench will start looking Macari-esque if Mowbray keeps adding coaches.

I think the bumblebee kit strapline is a nice touch too.

Paul McStay 'not a winner'.

Where do people come up with this utter tripe. Paul McStay was one of the few winners in a team stacked with losers at times.

A Celtic legend and to brand him as some kind of loser is an absolute joke.

I'd just like to point out that Jock Stein won what, 4 medals in his career if you include promotion with Albion Rovers and the Coronation Cup, I guess he wasn't much of a winner that guy. Shame...

Before managing Celtic, Man U and Chelsea, yes.

Stein brought success to 2 wee clubs in Scotland & had already shown his promise with our reserves. Ferguson won a European trophy or two with Aberdeen and Jose won the UEFA Cup & Champions league with Porto ffs. What an utterly stupid question!

Cause lennon has an absolute barrow load of medals in his locker compared to Mcstay, how about our manager :hmmm:

If Mcstay can be used in some way be it reserves or what ever i think it can only be a good thing. The man is represents everything that is celtic and considering he stood by the club in the darkest of times deserves to be involved in the club in some form or another.

Paul carried a club and its support through the leanest times in modern history. If it wasnt for him during the 90's suicide would have been sweet relief for me.

Paul McStay was a player that gave his all for the club and loved it too much to leave even when the big offers came in. He did carry the club and our board failed to reward his loyalty. He should have been kept on in some capacity when he retired, he was probably too nice a bloke and walked away quietly.

There is room for sentiment in football, but not much! If Mowbray thinks Paul McStay can do a useful job in some capacity at the club then that's great.

He cannot be given a job because of who he is though.

Too true mate.

Love to see him at C.P. if he wanted it.

He was Celtic F.C. for a period of time and a comforting presence in a torrid time for the supporters.
A player of his talent must have been tempted to jack it for more cash and less pressure , but he stayed and suffered with the rest of us.
Hero.

As for the proven winner comment - if aimed at Paul - a bit like blaming Georgie Best for not having a World Cup winners medal.
