http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-1194209/MICHAEL-OWEN-BROCHURE-The-complete-32-page-agents-dossier-fallen-Newcastle-star-England-striker.html Suprising to see Michael Owen, even at 29, having to do this to get himself a team. He'll be a hungry player next season with the WC coming up and I think he'd be a good signing for a Tottenham or Villa possibly. His brochure makes for some interesting reading though! |

Cant believe he's played 75% of NU's games in the last two years. That's genuinely shocking. |

Its incredible to see such a "athletic, iconinc" player who defined a golden generation for England prostitute himself in such a fashion. Brand values? WTF A 2 year contract at Celtic would be a marriage made in heaven right enough. Big name signing, loads of goals, return to fitness and England World Cup team for Michael. No chance though. Officially declared the "worst signing in Newcastles history", its interesting to see he blames much of his lack of goalscoring on Newcastle. "More midfield duties" "lack of creative midfielder" at the same time as attempting to deconstruct the accusations of big time against him in the media. Intersting document. Unprecedented but certainyl not the last. Its like buying a race horse now. |

http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/sport/football/thegame_podcasts/article6206267.ece A journo However, not much disagreement from supporters. Probablt should have qualified it by saying "pound for pound" worst signing in Newcastles history. Considering the fee, wages, previous pedigree, his goalscoring record and now off on a Bosman. Just off the top of my head I'd have Joey Barton, Warren Barton, Hugo Viana, Mike Hooper, Jon Dahl Tomasson, Darren Huckerby, Xisco, Marcelino, Titus Bramble, Jean-Alain Boumsong, Celestine Babayaro, Christian Bassesdas, Anders Andersson, Darren Peacock as worse. Having said that, Owen is pretty bad alright. |

Well they paid what £17 million for Owen on £80,-000 to £100,000 a week for 4 seasons. He is now off on a Bosman. For that according to Wiki, they got 30 goals in 4 seasons. He scored 16 goals for Real the season he joined. I cant think of any of they players you mentioned costing even near that. Many of them had re-sale value as well. Its really not a clever brochure. "Within weeks of signing a 4 year contract at Real Madrid in 2004, Michael realised he was unhappy living abroad and wanted to return to England" Haha, and they are touting this brochure abroad Okay, it does go on to state that Owens kids are older and moving abroad will be easier than it was then but why even bring it up in the first place?!? That page should really set the alarm bells ringing for any foreign chairman / director of football / oligarch who may have been contemplating buying him. |

Viana cost £12 million and was one of the top earners at the club, played about 40 games and I think scored twice and contributed nothing. I'd definitely have him up there. TBH though I had it in my head Owen had cost £14 million, but you're right, it was 17. Stupid money. |

12 million Euros for Viana- at at time when you were getting around 1.7 to the pund of thereabouts. http://www.uefa.com/footballeurope/news/kind=2/newsid=26854.html £7.5 million? Nowhere near the outlay on Owen or level of wages for an extended period. Also they recouped £1.5 million. |

When he burst onto the scene, he was phenomenal. Great fearless runner and used to really shake up opposing defences. Did fine at Real Madrid, but injuries ruined him. I don't take any pleasure from seeing his decline. Came over as not too bad a bloke (never said or did much wrong). Good luck to the guy. As for the brochure, well, it's standard fare nowadays in many things. |
