the voice !!!

can someone please explain what Reading have done wrong..

they voluntarily stumped up quarter of a million last year...and now that they won't do it again they are scabby bastards....you've lost me... :cuckoo:

what if Doyle had got injured during the course of this year and was worth nothing?

what about Doyle donating £250,000 from his signing on fee from wherever he's gone to save the club he started at...is he a scabby bastard for refusing to do that?

or ...here's a really radical idea....what about the guys running Cork actually doing it properly...you know...daft things like running their club within the income they have... ;)

It's difficult, Murph. On the one hand, you could say that Reading were opportunistic. But on the other hand, if Cork hadn't received that £200K cash inflow, would they be out of business already?

Cork desperately needed the cash last year and probably bit their hand off! I still hate it when clubs go out of business, though.

I hope they survive somehow.
Clearly they needed the money mate or they wouldnt have accepted it but in light of a 6.3m profit made on Doyle, you would have hoped that Reading would see the 250k which Cork currently need to survive as a spit in the ocean and stumped up. I just hate situations like this - pull the ladder up Jack - especially as Reading made a fortune on Doyle and have another bargain from Cork, Shane Long, still on their books.
Should Man Utd cough up some extra dough to Sporting given they made a huge profit on C Ronaldo??

Niall Quinn and Roy Keane paid way over the odds for Roy O'Donovan to help Cork out.
What was the view of the Sunderland supporters ?

And their shareholders ? :ponder:

Stop talking sense!

Why should Cork have to pay tax!

You're a smart chap - have a think about it. Reading had a 6.5m release clause in Doyle's contract. They knew that 650k of any money from the sale of Doyle was due to Cork. They decided to capitalise on Cork's situation by giving them just 200k up front. At present Cork still face winding up over just 250k, essentially the money they were owed would have saved them.
I know you lawyers view the world in black and white. It isnt that simple imo. Legally Reading have done nothing wrong but morally, in my view, their move was repugnant and typical of the rampant greed and capitalism in the game.

John Madjeski knew that by capitalising on Cork's dire financial situation he would save Reading almost half a million pounds - money which would have cleared Cork's debt and allow them to trade in the black again.
Right now the club still have an unpaid tax bill of around 250k which is still threatening their existence. Had Cork received what they were entitled to the problems would be completely behind them.
Those money problems were entierley of Cork's own creation.

I think you are not giving a balanced point of view here when you paint Cork as the simply the victims of sharp practice on Madjeski's behalf.

I would tend to agree with what Jim62 has said.

Cork got themselves into their predicamanet and handed all the leverage to Reading, I think suggesting that Reading should have paid more is a lot like saying Balde should have taken a pay cut to move on and play for Birmingham...

What if Doyle, between the time of Reading's offer and his move to Wolves, had either lost form or suffered a serious injury. The £6.5m fee for Doyle was a clause - it was never guaranteed.

Reading could have let Cork go to the wall last year and paid them nothing.

They saved them once when they didn't have to and they are "scabby bast**ds" because they won't do it again??

Very, very harsh

Clearly Im in the minority here - until Finner comes along to help me out - but you also fail to mention that Corks troubles may be of their own creation but they are under new ownership and that the difficulties were the doing of the previous administration.
Regardless, doesnt change the fact that Reading capitalised on the new owner's need to generate cash and are sitting back counting the pound notes while Cork face winding up. Doesnt seem decent to me but hey, whatever.

The 10 per cent sell on fee was an asset and would surely have been due to creditors anyway - in this case the Revenue in the event of Cork being wound up.

We actually live in a society where this type of behaviour is applauded and held up as an example to be followed. Its called good business practice and some will see nothing amiss with it. No wonder we're in such a feckin mess.

Not a lot of use to Cork if they were wound up though is it??

Also, seen it mentioned a couple of times but actually Kevin Doyle didn't start at Cork, St. Pat's were his first senior team, after junior football in Wexford.

I think it would be great if Reading were to pay the full amount, but I don't think they are scabby bas**rds for acting they way they did.

The Dub in me would love to see Cork wound up and Turners Cross turned into a landfill site, but the football fan in me knows it would be very bad for the League Of Ireland if Cork were to disappear

I also think Balde should have moved on when he had the chance and done so for less money, lots of people disagree with me on that.

With regard to the old regime at Cork and what the new owners have to deal with, if the new owners have any business acumen then they would have bought over Cork in the full knowledge that the Doyle sell on clause was a done deal and there was no more money coming from that situation... If they haven’t completed due diligence in their take over then it’s good night and God bless to Cork regardless of the £1/2m

Couldn't agree more, if they accepted the deal then they cant really complain. cork city are a shambles of a club and their mess is of their own creation. They have recieved help every step of the way and still habitually complain about being victimised by "Dublin".

It's also worth mentioning that the tax bill they needed to pay was not the full amount owed but a lesser 'settlement' reached with revenue. This special treatment wasn't afforded to other clubs such as Shelbourne (who were also relegated for their bad finances) and Dublin City (who ultimately went out of existence altogether.) who both had to pay the full amount.

I agree with you about how its a sad sign of the greed in football Murph but if Cork had acted a bit more like John Madejski, :boik: , they would have never ended up in this situation in the first place.
