:ponder: Am I right in saying that we only actually spoke to Fortune on Wednesday or Thursday last week? If so then I fail to see what the panic is about, it's not as if he's stringing us along for months FFS!

He's got interest from a few clubs at what would appear to be a crucial point in his career (27, if he doesn't "step up" to a bigger club or league now it's doubtful that he ever will), it sounds perfectly reasonable to me that he listen to each of the clubs' offers and take a few days to weight them up and discuss other aspects of the deals on the table with his family and advisors.

Personally I prefer it when a prospective signing takes time to weigh up the pros and cons of joining our club. I expect to get more out of a player who makes a level-headed rational decision about where he wants to be for the next 3 years of his career than some badge-kisser who will bullscheidt us about how much he loves the club and the fans only to develop a "leetle problem" and start working his ticket within a year.

But thats only me, and I know that one man's professional is another man's mercinary. So each to their own - carry on getting into a flap over having to wait a few days to find out about a player you'd never heard of two months ago if that floats yer boat

He can take a flying one as far as I'm concerned. If he's mulling over us and Hull and Wigan and putting a decision back to see what offer Porstmouth ffs put on the table, then he's hardly going to be committed to the cause.

Old fashioned I know but I'd rather see players who want to play for Celtic at CP.

Quite a few direct quotes from his agent so I'm basing my view on that.

I think you are being a bit unfair. How many footballers from French Guiana have an ambition to play for Celtic at Celtic Park? :ponder:

If he weighs up his options and is, at least, a half decent player, then take it as a compliment if he opts for Celtic.

got to say I kind of see it the other way round TBH. I agree that we should be looking for players who want to play for Celtic...but for me I question how they come to that decision.

A player taking his time to make a logical decision on where he wants to spend the next three years of his career is more likely to give the club he chooses good commited service. I'm thinking of guys like Larsson, Naka, Mjallby etc who never tried to claim it was anything other than the best offer on the table to them when they signed for us, but gave their all for the duration of their stay and left as heros.

A player who makes a quick emotional decision that a club is right for him may give the impression of being commited to the cause that the fans want to hear...but in reality (IMO) is more likely to make an equally quick and emotional decision that his future lies elsewhere as soon as something else comes up that catches his attention.

Heres a challenge to anyone who can be ersed - make a list of players we've signed post-Bosman*, excluding the ones who came from a Celtic supporting background, divide them between those who bit our hand off at the first sign of a contract and those who took a wee while to make their minds up if it was the right move for them....now which of those two groups brought the most to the club and are held in the highest esteem by the fans?

*I say post-Bosman, because before that players had far less say in where they went.

Either this guy wants to sign or he doesn't.
If he isn't interested, chase him.

At the end of the day it's a job offer. People look at it different but if one of us was offered a job in France or anywhere else in Europe would we just make our minds up there and then to please others?

Give the guy some more time FFS!

I said the same thing a few pages back.

Marc-Antoine Fortune can take a run and jump comparing us to the likes of those clubs whose main purpose of existence is to avoid relegation and hold on to Sky's money. As far as I'm concerned its a simple yes or no, he either hears Celtic are in for him and is up for the challenge of winning championships, cups and taking part in European competition or being an average 7 or 8 goal a season striker at the lower ends of the Premiership.

You got to speed it up
And then you gotta slow it down
Cos if you believe that a love can hit the top
You gotta play around
But soon you will find that there comes a time
For making your mind up

Good strikers who want to play for Celtic? I think you are living in the past with that comment. List them.

I'll take a good striker who decides to play for Celtic any day of the week.

(Disclaimer: This opinion is based on several recent seasons of enduring average/piss poor strikers who 'loved playing at Celtic') :)

The others two strikers that we were heavily linked with have now gone elsewhere, so we'd need to get something concluded fairly sharpish. I think we might have all of our eggs in one basket with this Fortune Character, and I can't see Lawwell going in for an Andy Thom type signing if all else fails. After all, why sign someone quickly by paying full whack when you can save a few quid with weeks of loquacious negotiation?

I'm looking forward to seeing the starting 11 pull on the Hoops the season & winning back our trophy. Everything else is irrelevant. :chuffed:

That would be linked with in the press.

Lets be honest, none of us, nor even in the press (MAF asides) know who we are linked with. I would like to think that everyone at the club, from the top down, knows we need an influx of players this summer. No need for hysteria yet............tho the fact we will soon be in Oz for 7/ 8 days very soon does worry me.

outta sight outta mind
