the one at parkhead was definately one of the best free kicks i have seen....couldn't have been any more in the corner....not only that the distance out was quite a bit, against one of the best keepers in the world..and the winner against the 'mighty' man u to get us out of the group stages for the 1st time....what a moment....i don't think many celtic fans will ever forget that...will probs even have one of its own 'i was there' threads in the future

That Villarreal video - he was a joy to watch. Rarely did daft tricks, but was so good to watch.

Just watched that there, my favourite player of the Strachan era :worthy:

I miss him already

Hope he does well in Spain.

Are Espanyol any good at the moment? Remember being impressed by them in Uefa final at Hampden

De la Pena is supposed to be the fittest he's been in years. I think with him fit and the signing of Naka they'll be challenging for top 6.

Me too mate.

But can't help think that he'd be even more of a star under Mowbray.

That's the worst thing about it all for me.

Incidentally, it won't be so much the Man U game I'll remember him for. The 2-1 game against the scum was the first OF i got to go to. Took my da' for his birthday to the Kerrydale Suite and was right behind 'The Goal'. A couple minutes passed and I turned round to him and said: "What a effing goal!"

Such a sublime touch, but it disappointed me that he felt he had to give someone else the ball at times. He was too humble for his own good although it is part of the reason we all love him so much.

Strachan's biggest fault was going back to a 4-4-2 after completely outplaying Villarreal with beautiful football in a perfect formation.
Spot on - everyone bar Strachan could see it worked. Idiot.

Did we not set up in a similar kind of way in League cup final? 4231 - or 451, whatever you want to call it...

Agreed.

That was down to his stubbornness/insecurity in thinking that he needed 2 up front for the SPL. We were incredibly well suited to 4-2-3-1, that had been used against Feyenoord and Porto with good success in pre-season.

When you think back to the fact that we only really had one striker playing well towards the season's end, it makes it all the more frustrating. Especially when guys like Naka, Maloney and McGeady thrived on such a formation.
I don't think he thought McDonald could play that system, and he wanted McDonald to play (with good reason). I can't think of a time under Strachan we went 4-3-2-1 with McDonald up front by himself, it was always either JVOH or Samaras if I remember correctly.

I think they Narrowly avoided the drop last year - should be good to see how he plays against barca, real etc......

Against the huns in the CIS Cup Final and at Ibrox in the last OF game I'm sure.

They finished 10th last season, although the bottom half of the table was very tight. They were in the relegation zone before de La Pena came back fit. Naka and de la Pena will make a world of difference. Be interesting to see how Ben Sahar does too as he had a big rep early on at Chelsea.
