Missed it. :(

What was it about? Was it any good?
It came across to me as one of they sneidy TV documentaries that people try to do that is laced with 'humour'. It followed a couple of Scots in Japan and contained a wee bit about Naka and our Japanese fans.

The show mainly consisted of Japanese people watching Celtic get beat, Alex Miller making a twit of himself by not being able to use chopsticks or speak Japanese and generally being poor at communicating. There was also a bit with Peter Lawwell talking about Japan as a commercial venture, which was cringeworthy.

The 'humour' bit was every time somebody said something the exact opposite would pop up in the next scene (i.e. Japanese guy: I'm here to watch Celtic win. Next shot we get pumped. Stuff like that).

Empty, disrespectful crud was my take on it. But it's probably just me... :ph43r:

From what I heard it was supposed to be a documentary that would let us in on what Naka was really like, but was absolutely nothing like that. They could have made a great programme about Japan and Naka and the cultural changes here and there (without the cack-handed and dumbed-down pish about chopsticks and sushi and Japanese guys slagging Lee Naylor).

Just my take on it. I was UTI so I may have read it all wrong. Will maybe watch it again. Basically I'm just grumbling because it could have been so much better and definitely did not do what it said on the tin.

could be wrong, but it sometimes takes them about a day or so to put stuff up on the iplayer.
Nope. It's only networked programmes that go on iPlayer. So stuff shown only on certain BBC regions do not get included.
Some stuff from the regions gets shown but not a lot. This programme aint available on iPlayer:

Aye, that's oor Nobu, star of the show... anybody wants to meet him he'll be over for the huns game, you'll probably find him down at Bairds bar a lot over the next few days... !!! He's not on here, but he is on CelticMinded!

I feared for this documentary because when I met with the guys who were making it when they'd just arrived out here, they did seem to only want to know about the crazy side of Japanese life, so I'm not surprised by some of the reactions on here! I couldn't be there for the filming as I was going off on holiday that day, but they were trying to persude me to stay in a capsule hotel so they could film it! :nono:

i normally enjoy everything to do with japan, culture programs, language programs - everything. I do study the language.

alex miller was cringeworthy, i wanted a documentary about nakamura, not him.. and to think i was going to see nakamura from start to finish, a documentary about him for 30 minutes..

not really worth watching it

It was amusing. Pity the shooting schedule did not cover the friendly game we won, but I doubt that was intentional.

Funniest stuff was the Japanese supporters slagging the same usual suspects that we do Naylor, Donatti etc and the two Japanese players in Miller's team who spoke English slagging his accent.

If its intent was to amuse it succeeded.

On a serious note I bet PL's fingers and toes are crossed that Koki becomes a regular first team starter.

Yes, but this thread title is:

Naka - BBC Documentary.

So it's understandable if people were expecting a BBC Documentary about Naka.

I went by the thread title when I sat down to watch it but had not read the contents of this thread.

I'm guessing a few others did the same.

If you stripped it back to the part about the Celtic fans get together to watch the game, It showed us in a good light. Starts the old KDS debate of if you are born a Celtic fan or can you become one. Every Japanese fan I meet home or away are totally smitten by Celtic. Sometimes we don't appreciate what we have on our door step.

Take the team that Millar managed in Japan, pants football but the fans create a superb, maic atmosphere. We could do with a bit of that at home games.

Fans from Japan are more than welcome, without the "commercial benefits". At times exploitation of new markets expressions and selling the Celtic story to the world sicken me. Lets remain a club of the people, instead of how much yen we can get out of them.

Well apologies but go by the programme listing. Folk complaining that there aint enough Naka in it didn't get the point.

Whoever put the thread up should have put the proper title in.

As a player, manager, assistant manager, ex-pat coach, Alex Miller is and was the complete phannie.
