I effin dread the qualifiers. They are no fun and have so much at stake.
Agree. The situation now is just crazy. Champions League money is so important that the team needs to reach its peak before the season even begins. If we reach the group stages, the rest of the season almost becomes an anti-climax in comparison and if we don't make it into the groups, there's a dark cloud over the whole season. It's ridiculous.
We know this though, prepare our entire operation around these games & we'll do alright.
Make January our main window, rest players before close season in summer, rotate the squad more.
There's lots we can do.
I'd happily play a CL qualifying team just for those games until we're through. Play the 2nd string against Livingston etc.
Maybe not entirely, but in the main. Brown is already a doubt for example, Lustig & boyata are not here - keep them out of the league games & have them focus on CL.
Plenty we can do & tbf we do well now.
We put out fringe teams last season on a number of occasions and look at how many points we dropped.

We should be going full throttle on all fronts up until we have a healthy lead at the top of the table, then and only then, should we think about resting players.

I think Lennon done it during his tenure towards the end of the campaign, sending players on week holidays in March/April. We couldn't do that the past 2 seasons, because of the unbeaten run and the title challenge (albeit small) we got ourselves into last season.

Quoting limited to 3 levels deep
We rested some of our players in games last season and drew against the likes of St. Johnstone at Parkhead so Brendan has to be careful not to change the team about too much just in case we really do have a challenge this year
I think near enough a full team rotation is asking for trouble. We need to be smarter with it this year. I can't see Rangers being any worse than last year.
As well as too much rotation, I thought a lot of it was down to a focus / attitude.

When we were 'on it' last season, we dished out some serious beatings. We can't afford to be complacent this season though.

To be fair, I don't think we will - the huns do far too much talking & we will be suitably fired up to keep them in their place.

WTF happened to UEFA drawing teams near to us in the first round or 2 of qualifying to stop 8 hours flights to Armenia?

Think it had something to do with drawing Crusaders
Genuine question...you mean in terms of potential trouble?

Agree with that and I also think our system was too predictable.

With, for lack of a better term, 'lesser' players filling the team we weren't able to get through games playing the way we played.

Hope the 3-5-2 this year sparks a bit of life into the team.

Moussa & Eddie playing in a 2 up front is one hell of a prospect.

I hope it's something we get to see plenty of this season.

Pretty sure we will see it. All those home game last season where we struggled to break down well organised defences were crying out for a more flexible approach - and 3-5-2 potentially provides that as we could get Edouard, Dembele and Rogic all in the same line-up.

Anyone know if this Premier sports is available through a youview box? They also have the away tie in the next round if we get through but i can't find it. Is it only on a Sky box you can get it?

We've got 8 CL qualifiers in a row, every weekday, from now! Chuck in the start of the league & that's a lot of games considering we're just back (Brown, Griffiths & Compper are already injured).
These are our most important games, as it effects our entire season.

A "fringe" team is:

- - - - - - Griffiths
Sinclair - Christie - - Morgan
- - - McGinn - - Eboue
Miller - Compper - Lustig - Ralston
- - - - - - - Bain

That's assuming McGinn is here by the next couple weeks, which I think he will. We've also still got players on WC duty/leave & maybe other signings to come in (I chucked in Lustig, to cover).

A full team to concentrate on the CL 8 games in a row is:

- - - Eddie - Moussa
- - - - - McGregor
KT - Ntcham - Brown - Forrest
- - - Jozo - Ajer - Hendry
- - - - - - Gordon

Once the 3 first picks come back from the WC we've even more leeway.

I must admit to enjoy thinking about this stuff to pass my wee spare moments here & there. I think Brendan may do more rotation - not less.

That 1st team there would challenge for sure.

Sorry to derail the thread, that 2nd team minus Brown for Kouassi would be my bet for tomorrow.

Yeah, I’ve heard Celtic asked to be separated in the draw to avoid a repeat of last year. It makes sense when you look at all the pots. Everyone is regionalised except us.

I'm not saying don't mix it up, I just mean there needs to be a limit to the amount of quality we drop from the first 11, even if it is against Livi and the likes.

We done similar against bottom 6 sides last season and dropped points.

Last year these games were viewable live in the UK via Celtic TV.
It was late in the day being announced as I remember, nothing so far - just overseas...
