Not so sure about being an insignificant little country (unless of course you are just speaking in football terms) but I get the gist of your point. That said is our league any more rubbish than those of Iceland, Sweden or even Belgium?
No, but Iceland and Sweden don't have teams that compare to Celtic in terms of size and history. Nor do Belgium really, although Anderlecht are a good bit bigger than any Icelandic or Swedish clubs and like us have an aim of being in at least the CL groups each year. Anderlecht don't have half a dozen of their players in the Belgian squad though.
UEFA and it's band of shampooers don't care about big teams in wee leagues.

If the other Scottish teams had partly pulled their weight over the years then we wouldn't be in so bad a situation of playing 4 rounds (even if we moved up to 3 rounds it would be an improvement). Yep, UEFA are a bunch of $#@^*&, but the rest of the teams in the SPF(hel)L have to take some responsibility as our Country ranking has plummeted to 26th. Country's like Israel, Cyprus, Belarus & Azerbaijan are all above us which says more about our League and it's downward spiral.

It's amazing Celtic are doing as well as there are with the massive ball & chain (SPFL) they have to drag around behind them holding us back.

PS - Celtic 3-0 tonight :ynwa:

I wouldn't risk Brown at all even with a niggle but he probably will start as he'll tell everyone he's fine as usual

That’s a good point. Hypothetical and extremely unlikely but what would have happened if Scotland had qualified and progressed to this point?

Any win and no injuries would be great Celtic.
Taking GardenStateCelt's suggested team above:

Gordon
Hendry-Ajer-Simunovic
Forrest-Brown-Ntcham-Tierney
McGregor
Dembele-Edouard

If Scotland had qualified for the World Cup you can take Gordon, Forrest, Brown, Tierney & McGregor out for definite. Bain and Hendry are on the fringes of the squad having both taken part in those end of season games in Mexico and Peru, but probably wouldn't make the final cut. That would leave us with:

Bain*
Hendry* - Ajer - Simunovic
Morgan* - Kouassi - Ntcham - Sinclair
Christie*
Dembele - Edouard

* assuming they don't make the Scotland squad.

That should probably still be enough to get past Alashkert to be honest, but I wouldn't fancy going much further into the competition with a team like that.

While I don't want it do happen to Celtic, in a way it'd be genuinely interesting to see what happens when a club which sends a significant number of players to a World Cup or Euro Championships has to play these stupidly early qualifying games. You'd like to think that there'd be some sort of consideration given to the fact that they're being put at a disadvantage, but I don't know how that could be done.
Would UEFA saying “tough shampooe” be genuinely interesting to you?

Yes, the real football is back, get it done Celtic - a good solid professional performance with a clean sheet and a couple (or more) away goals please

Hopefully the tie is killed off tonight. Goes without saying we shouldn’t need to play four qualifiers but playing a competitive contest at this stage is better preparation for the likes of Rosenborg than meaningless friendlies.

Going to miss this, as I’m in England, and there’s feck all nearby with Premier Sports :(

They have an iOS app and stream on https://www.premierplayer.tv.

Reckon this will be a comfortable win, a couple of early goals and see it out in the heat.

is there anyway of signing up as a one off with them? As in not having to cancel in a month's time having spent eight hours in a phone queue?

Agreed.

I'll take a competitive match over a Austrian second division team any day.

Think we'll get the business done over there, frankly. Hope I don't live to regret saying that.

4-0 Celtic.

Anyone from Dumfries know if Queen of the South Bar at Nith Place has the game on tonight? They had Premier Sports last year.

Would UEFA saying “tough shampooe” be genuinely interesting to you?
It'd be yet another argument for reform of what is clearly an unfair and uncompetitive setup, so yes.

Ha!

I don't disagree with any of what you're saying, but I think you're over estimating how much UEFA care about Celtic (or any club outwith the big 6 or 7 leagues).

They won't have anyone to pump 7-0 if we and our wee ilk aren't there. We hold more cards than you'd think.

There’s likely to be more qualifiers on Premier Sports and probably some of the other Scottish clubs’ qualifiers too...probably worth the £10 for the next month

TBH I'm starting to see these early games as a positive for us.
The more we get used to building our season around them the better, not much floofing about with friendlies or those tours of the USA/Australia.
The short break has the players returning very fit & we can manage to give them individual breaks throughout the season + squad breaks in Dubai etc.
If we qualify for the CL, then we're already 8 games in & will hit the groups running full pelt.

352 tonight, Edouard hattrick - he's going to have an amazing season I reckon.
I think we'll destroy them on the break & Eddie is great at this.

The next round is definitely on it if we get through. The huns and Hibs away games next week are as well. If they get the 3rd round hopefully we are away first so I dont need to pay for another month.

Surely Celtic TV is a better option than Premier Sports given CTV are showing it to subscribers in Scotland etc.
