I accepted we’d sign McGinn a good while ago, however £3m verges on the steep side.

Do folk no ever think maybe Hibs can't afford Allan or don't want to dedicate a huge chunck of their wage bill to him? That they bought Stevie Mallan, a guy while not similar in style plays in the same position as Allan, suggests they might have moved on from Scott.
Maybe they haven't and this is all brinkmanship but transfers aren't often as easy as throwing names with pounds to make it work. After all, we ourselves will value both McGinn & Allan at certain levels that is different from Hibs valuations. Just caving in and giving Hibs what they want for a guy who looks like he'll be a sub for us isn't good business sense.
Stop being sensible. Just for that I'm changing my offer to £2 million plus Christie on loan.

If we tried to buy a player of similar ilk from the English championship it would cost us considerably more on the wages front so an extra 300k or 400k on the transfer front is better value in the long run, and don't forget the prices will go through the roof when Engerlund win Jules Rimet :ffs:

Then we should avoid buying average English players

Eboue looked good yesterday coming on for Brown.
We can easily wait until january, if John will too. It's also very easy to find out if he will.
Petrie is not in a good position to play hardball, if the above were to be true.

Sutty is wrong. He might be worth that to a rich English club but not to us.

He is just backing up lennons evaluation which we all know is laughable for a player with a year left who has no European experience.

Hibs playing hardball because of the fee they owe st mirren on the back of this transfer. 33% of the transfer fee goes to them apparently

Quoting limited to 3 levels deep
it is 100% true
Even if his contract had expired, we would sill have to have paid a fee because of his age.
yes thats true , but wigan were offering more than 4 times the wages we offered

They did. Apparently some deal was done on the development fee that was due that now appears to have come back and bitten them.

No way is McGinn worth 3m in the last year of his contract. I would have thought even if BR does want him his game time this season will be pretty limited. Ride it out and get pre contract in January. Lennon can use him for another season and most likely Lennon will move on from Hibs by then also

It was a development fee hibs paid for him but a few months ago before he left st mirren jack ross mentioned the sell on fee they would receive if mcginn was sold

33% is absolutely mental from a hibs perspective

Hibs probably didn't exoect him to be the success he was and wanted to minimise their outgoings.

Allan wants 7k a week as that's what he gets paid at Celtic into this final year of his deal

Hibs cannot afford that, he might be the only player loaned to them this season in that case as part of the deal

How much do Hibs want for McGinn?
Hibs are convinced that he is worth 4-5 million

2-3 million with a player on loan should hopefully do it

in this inflated market I dont blame Hibs for looking for 4 or 5 M. The problem for them, is he is in the last year of his contract.....and they probably need to do something this summer..
Of course hibs are right ask what they want and it’s up to us to offer a price we think he is worth.Hibs of course will look at the £7M we got for Armstrong who when fit last season didn’t really look interested. The only time I really see McGinn is when he played against us for st mirren and hibs and i’ve always been impressed.I understand some that we are strong in that position but an injury or 2 could change that.

I don't know, I think that's the kind of sell on fees we should be asking for as well.

If we can make the initial transfer a little less to a buying club eg S'oton and are confident they are buying a star then a sell on of 25%+ is a pretty good idea.

Obviously we would lose out on the likes of Victor and FF.

This would tie in to what remy mentioned about hibs not interested in scott allan
