No he wouldn't

Kane might well end up top scorer and winning the cup but f**k me, he would have a hell of a long way to go to be remembered as the greatest of all time.

I'm sure there are plenty of W.C winners who scored a shed load but aren't ever in the GOAT debate.

In respect of Neds above post Maradona in 86 to 90 W.C beat EVERY previous WC winning team.
Say what you want about Kane, and plenty will, but he's a consumable professional. I doubt very much that you'll see him at an England World Cup game in thirty years time, coked out of his noggin' on ecstasy bongs.
And I doubt in 30 years time people will be banging on about him in relation to the greatest of all time.
Ffs he probably won't even be the greatest English striker. :brickwall:

Time will tell I suppose, but yesterday was embarrassing from a supposed roll model like Madonna. He looked like he'd been up all night chasing the white reefer. Probably woke up this morning on a K hill.

The reaction to him from our friends down South has been hilarious.

I love the fact that they're still so bitter towards him over events in 86.

Lineker calling him a "laughing stock"....I very much doubt the Argentinians see him as a laughing stock.
I actually like Lineker but his (and every other Englishman’s) bitterness towards Maradona is hilarious
One of the greatest players ever to walk this earth, a true god of football and I love that he rubs them up the wrong way
This bit just isn't true. Plenty of English absolutely adore him.
There's plenty of evidence online of Maradona and Lineker getting on famously well together , even from a few months after the Hand Of God. Doesnt mean he can't criticise Maradona for his behaviour every now and then. That doesnt apply to a lot of the English fans to be fair , they still do have that loathing of him.

Bit rich coming from Lineker considering he paid for Gazza the alkie, wife beating, bigot appeasing waster to go into rehab and has continually backed him to beat his demons.

And unlike Rio, at least Maradona turned up for his drugs test.

As for Gary, let's hope he never turns up at any of his brothers pubs in Ibiza as there's plenty of gear kicking about there!

Can't wait to see their tears when they get papped out by the first decent side they face.

Only downside is their fans have shat it en masse and aren't getting slapped about silly over there. Took 5 times that to effing Japan!

I doubt anyone has ever held Maradona up as some kind of role model. He was the most gifted player I have ever seen but has always been flawed, like many geniuses in every walk of life.

He has always lived to excess and had he had the same attitude to health and fitness that someone like Ronaldo has, God only knows what else he would have achieved.

I have little doubt he is addicted to drink and drugs and like many more before him will be found dead in some hotel room long before his time.

He is treated like a God in Argentina and acts like he is indestructable.

I've seen lineker a few times talking about maradona and he's talked him up.....Terry Butcher on the other hand clearly still hates him.

Lineker is/was a huge fan of Maradona. He went to argentina to meet and interview him, having to runaround to do so.

Celtic probably wouldn't have made the UEFA Cup Final in 2003 without Larsson but that doesn't mean he "single handedly dragged" us to it, indeed no one has ever said as much.

Maradona was clearly better than everyone at the 1986 World Cup by a significant margin. There were many good players at the tournament, including in Maradona's team, it Diego played at a level way beyond everyone else.

If we're all being extremely pedantic, no one said that exactly.

Did Maradona win it on his own? No. It's a figure of speech to highlight his importance to a team, which is well recognised outside the confines of literally fixated football forums such as this one.

No one ever won a World Cup on their own, or even a game. It's made up of hundreds of moments with contributions from everyone from the tea lady to the guy who hits a 40 yard screamer in the last minute. But, it would take too long to write all that about every game played.

Maradona was the player of the tournament. If he was playing for any other team in that World Cup, they'd probably have won it too. Except Scotland, where he would have got caught taking drugs or something.

Bit harsh.

To be fair to England, if they win it, and they've got as good a chance as any, then Harry Kane would have to be spoken about in the same breath.
No he wouldn’t
Not even close
