I'm fairly convinced that from 1970 we played without goalkeepers until the arrival of Boruc.

Forster's distribution was absolutely terrible.
Yep, I agree. Useless with the ball at his feet.

I don't remember a goalkeeper's 'distribution' even being a topic until maybe around when De Gea signed for Manchester United. People just wanted a shot stopper and Boruc was that. Not sure he'd pass this new sweeper keeper test.

Guardiola's style of play with Valdes was probably the catalyst for it. There have been plenty of great keepers before that who could pass a ball through.
