Can't see us going for McClean when we have Forrest, Sinclair, Hayes, Morgan, Johnston, McGregor and (hopefully) Eduardo who can all play wide.
McClean would be okay but is probably too similar to hayes. He gets stuck in and is all heart but has no real pace which isn’t good for a winger.
Far, far better player than Hayes. A good option for Europe too due to his work rate, he's used to backs to the wall performances with Ireland where, by and large, he's been very good and chipped in with big goals.

McClean gets in the ROI team ahead of Hayes and therefore you would imagine would be an upgrade. Don’t see Jonny going anywhere though he was just coming on to a game before his unfortunate injury and there’s unfinished business there.

McClean is a bit like a left sided Forrest, in so far as he's fairly one footed, and is a pretty one dimensional, kick and rush winger. But he's bigger, stronger, infinitely harder working, has a better cross and can play at left back too.

I'd definitely have him, mightn't be box office but he'd be a consistent 7/10.

We need a defence. 3 out of the 4 first choice defenders are liabilities in European games (and KT, great as he is, hasn't exactly shone on the big stage)

Conceding shampooe goals is our fotet in Europe. We can score against anyone but we can't stop anyone scoring against us. Have to sort it. I don't care if that's the only area of the team to see changes this year but we just cannot rely on Dedryck, Jozo, or Lustig any longer.
The issue isn't with the quality of our defenders in Europe....it's with the tactics we employ and general poor ball retention in midfield.

If we continue to play that way then it won't make any difference if we sign a couple of experienced CL campaigners on £80k a week....they'll still be left exposed and looking like diddies on a regular basis.

If the team is set out to give the defence a bit more protection, and to hold on to the ball for more than two touches before handing it straight back to the opposition then you may find that Boyata and Simunovic aren't quite the liabilities you think.
Couldn’t agree more it’s the only thing I get annoyed about when it comes to Brendan, he needs to swallow his pride and accept we can’t play the same away from home in Europe

McClean is far better than Hayes but he's also far more expensive. I doubt he would offer value for money.

I was not in agreement with signing of Hayes but there is no way he is going anywhere before being given a chance. I think he was bought to play wing-back when we go three at the back.

Ffs we aren't sending him over the top circa 1916.

Couldn't care less about his support for is if he isn't a massive upgrade for the money.

BR needs players who can step up in Europe, so I hope that's the kind of quality he's looking at.

And don't see Hayes getting punted after breaking his leg.

No but the problem is Hayes isn't good enough. I know he was starting to look ok before the injury but I wouldn't want to see him given a run of games. Roberts away, sell Hayes and sign McClean might work but I couldn't see Hayes wanting to go anywhere after only really getting a few months at the biggest club he'll ever play for. 30k a week for McClean is a massive spend for us but I think he would be a good signing.

Hoping for a long season with many games and success on all fronts, whoever we sign if they're an improvement they're going to cost more, and they're going to need mental toughness. McClean has that in spades, as well as big-game experience. Also sometimes you need to send the lads over the top at der hun.

I don't think Hayes has ever been good enough.

If we pay a player 30k a week he needs to be a first pick and amongst our better players. McClean wouldn't be either of these things. Being better than Hayes isn't enough to justify such an outlay.

If he’s as desperate to play for us as he says he is, he might take a pay cut.

You’re doing Forrest a real disservice there.
