Jozo wants to stay

From The Hootsmon -

Jozo Simunovic has revealed a heart-to-heart meeting with manager Brendan Rodgers has left him content to stay at Celtic and fight to regain his first team place.

I thought it was significant that he was brought on in cup final. Jozo is still young and there is definitely a player there if BR can get best out of him.
Probably means that if Boyata signs a new deal, we'll have the same central defenders next season - Ajer, Boyata, Hendry & Simunovic.......... + or - Marvin

Quoting limited to 3 levels deep
"Typical Celtic. Failing to capitalise from a position of strength..."
 Transfer window bingo.

"criminal incompetence"

"project"

and double points for

"well, who would YOU suggest we sign that's within our budget?" with "I don't get paid to scout players m8"

'we fall for it every time.'

Hoping we address our defence as a priority this window. Hope Boyata has a good WC, gets sold for money and that we bring in a less bombscarey first-team replacement for him, plus a new RB. As an absolute minimum. Gordon is not the answer long term either, but doubt GK will be a priority this window (maybe Woods can work some magic with Bain in the meantime to give us stronger competition).

If Edouard signs I'll be delighted. Would also like to see a flair player coming in to replace Paddy. KT needs a back-up.

It's the hope that kills you  .

FWIW I would imagine Rogic didn't sign for 23 quid a week and a transcard (one for the kids)

That deal most likely amounted to a significant sum. Boyata and Edouard will be the same. We'll have a number of first team players on high wages when you add in Gordon, Brown, Dembele, Tierney and Sinclair, followed closely by the likes of Forrest, Griffiths and Lustig. We are investing heavily in the existing players and yes, while there are a few names need moved on, I'm not convinced we'll be signing a name player this Summer, unless one goes of course.

Your one of the more sensible posters on here.

Keeping most of those players will be a tough ask but if we do so then we'll benefit in the long run. Moussa, Eddy, Rogic, Ntcham etc are only going to get better and if they start hitting form around the same time then we've a chance of doing something in Europe, especially the Europa past Christmas.

I think most would agree a right back is the major position needing strengthened. Lustig has been a great servant but no competition and dips in form have been obvious at various times.

It looks like Ajer will be one of the two CB's for next season and Boyata has come back into form but I'd think Rodgers will be looking at that position also.

I'm happy for Jozo to stay. If he finds his form he is an excellent addition and as good, if not better, than Boyata.

I think Dembele and Armstrong will both stay. For all this talk of champions league money we have a huge wage bill so cannot afford to add to it to much.

I will think we will get at most 2 or 3 in with the same leaving.

he is not someone you can rely on - europe last year should have made that clear

we need significantly better than than what we have at centre back for europe.

we have found that quality in midfield repeatedly and likewise up front we have found a number on loan or otherwise

As far as PC Lustig goes what about Ryan Fredericks of Fulham who has impressed me this season, especially play offs recently.Lightning quick and good going forward and defending - just saying.
Considering Fulham want £100 million for their left-back Sessegnon, something tells me Fredericks wouldn’t come cheap. Even if Fulham lose the play-off final, he’s still a £10 million player in that market.
I always thought that young lad was a striker. Live and learn!
I think he's played left of a front 3 recently

We need a defence. 3 out of the 4 first choice defenders are liabilities in European games (and KT, great as he is, hasn't exactly shone on the big stage)

Conceding shampooe goals is our fotet in Europe. We can score against anyone but we can't stop anyone scoring against us. Have to sort it. I don't care if that's the only area of the team to see changes this year but we just cannot rely on Dedryck, Jozo, or Lustig any longer.

Who was the last 'name' player to work out for us. Keane and Bellamy both good but loans...
Scott Sinclair.

FWIW, I don't think McLean is anywhere near as bad as people on here make out.
I'd be happy if McClean came here. Would definitely do a job for us.

He's out of contract.
Cheers Mickey - he’s also shown on transfermarkt with market value 3.6m !!! ( I know I know :suspect: )

That makes more sense. I did think nearly 20 goals for a left back was pushing it.

English teams would need to pay a fee. Be the same as the Dembers deal.

Armstrong will leave. We're not going to let anyone run down their contract. Dembele still has two years, so there's a decent chance he'll stay.

The squad needs a good pruning to get the wage bill down. It'd be nice if we had another one or two youths floating about the first team but other than Mikey Johnstone I don't see any likely candidates.

Have heard a few snippets this week/weekend through a couple of sources. Some more surprising than others.

- Gamboa and DDV are obviously for the off (MLS and back to Holland)
- Armstrong was adamant he was leaving this summer after being persuaded to have one more crack at the CL. He was assured he'd be let go this summer once Ntcham was settled and in the hope that continuing his form would keep his price up. His form/consistency hasn't been as good as last year and Ntcham has rightly taken his place, so the teams sniffing around last year have took a step back. Both parties are now in a catch 22, don't be surprised if he stays/comes back with his tail between his legs/signs an extension.
- Erik is off, Rodgers doesn't rate him
- Contrary to what's in today's papers, I had heard Jozo was for the off. Rodgers still expects Compper to be 3rd/4th choice next year.
- A new first choice RB will come in. Lustig's red card at Aberdeen set him back with Rodgers and his WC commitments this summer means this is a priority and will be the first position to be sorted in the summer.
- Finally, look away now but....... a new centre half is not a priority, neither is a GK

There's enough in there to keep us going until the end of the window!
