I wonder the reaction on here had we signed Lambert from Motherwell rather than Dortmund. A player can move to a club and surprise you, and then there are the Ciftis if the world, who can’t make that step up.

I would hope that Lennon, Strachan and Rodgers opinion of McGinn is more relevant that most in here.

Quoting limited to 3 levels deep
I’ve seen him plenty. Including games not against Celtic. He is not a good passer of the ball. Particularly wasteful with his long passing.
Have you seen him dominate in games against us?
No

I dunno about dominate but I've seen him put in a few good shifts against us. He's had a few invisible ones too.

A bit of the Murdo McLeods about him in that they are both wee and play in midfield.

Not as bad as the 'if his name had been John McGinnio' argument, but close.

The question you should be asking is "is he a step up"? If the answer is no, then you're being duped. Sign for European strength not a 9 point gap to a rotten 2nd placed opponent.

Or plan ahead. . . .Scott Brown won't last forever and I think McGinn can follow his career path.

I think John McGinn would be a decent enough signing. Would prefer to see the areas of the team where there are glaring deficiencies (RB, CB, Gk) being addressed first though

McGinn will be a good signing domestically have my doubts for Europe. I also don't think a central midfielder should be our priority.

The game where it mattered was the league cup semi final and McGinn didn't get a kick. Not to say he wouldn't improve at Celtic but a lot has been managing Hibs performances against us this season. I didn't agree with it but we didn't get out of first gear until the games mattered

Paul Lambert was a better player after being at Dortmund - he changed from an attacking midfielder, to more of a holding player. You can be almost certain had we bought him from Motherwell, then it would have been as an attacking midfielder in which case you could question his worth as a signing.

You can't really compare him and McGinn.

So do we possibly have a manger now that see's something in McGinn that would make him a top player like Dortmund done?

Like he done with Armstrong?

I think he's improved Armstrong, just don't think he has dramatically changed his role. Ajer would be a better example for me of a significant change Brendan has made to a player, but again not a Brendan signing.

I just don't see a place for him in the side, unless Brendan sees him as a right back. Last season saw us only buy 1 player to strengthen the first XI (Ntcham), all the other signings were squad signings - we really need now to be bringing in first XI quality players if we want to push on, and McGinn isn't at that level yet.

If we do sign McGinn.
How much do St.Mirren get from the sale??
Did he not leave St Mirren as a free agent?

33% supposedly, which is why Lennon is wanting so much for him.

Not sure if that figure is correct though, but I've seen or heard it more than once this year.
WOW didn't think it was as much as that

Not sure just remember Chick the Mirren fan bumping his gums on RS about it being good for his team.
