John McGinn.

Never been overly impressed with him.

However, in the SPFL at times we do need someone with his physical, at times dominating presence if we are going to give Scott Brown some well deserved rest time.
Currently we don’t have a natural replacement for Brown. McGinn might be a lightweight alternative, but still a decent one.

So, signing him wouldn’t be the worst idea.

If we do sign McGinn I think he might surprise a lot of people. (in a good way!)

I also think McGinn would do a lot better for us than people think.

I don't have a problem with buying players and loaning them out but agree a couple of first team ready players are required this window.
Right back is the priority for me.
But you could probably make an argument for players in 8 or 9 positions.
Signing good players no matter what positions they prefer is never a bad idea.

I think McGinn would be a very clever forward thinking signing. I didin't see the Scott Brown of today when we signed him, I didn't even see it 3 years ago. BR has improved him no end and prolonged his career at the same time, and I have no doubt he would do a similar job on a player who is still well short of his potential.

A reputed DOF would be useful for long term monitoring of good quality replacements for Scott Brown. European progress won't be made with the level of player signed to waste away and/or sit on the naughty chair without a chance to prove themselves and those who are clearly dross but continually played by Brendan to justify the transfer fee.

The talentless scouts are on the gravy train with apparently little or no accountability due to the continued success that Brendan brings and continually reading of links to the supposed best opponents in Scotland (Hayes last season and McGinn this) is indicative of a lack of insight. European qualification is difficult but made more so with reluctance/inability to identify a very good u-23 who is beyond project and starting to prove their quality. Celtic can sign 3 euro gems this Summer for £20m and still be in profit from the 5 or so players being sold. If not a DOF, a reputable scout in the Baltic nations and Germany would be cost effective.

33% supposedly, which is why Lennon is wanting so much for him.

Not sure if that figure is correct though, but I've seen or heard it more than once this year.

No disrespect mate...but you obviously have never watched john Mc Ginn
He holds the ball up like no-one else
He is an unbelievable passer of the ball
He can score goals from the midfield

Like a previous post stated “we might be surprised by what mc ginn brings”

I totally agree with this statement

He's one of the strongest on the ball I've seen.

He's not an "unbelievable" passer of the ball.

McGeouch is much better than him at passing a ball.

'Hold its up its Like no one else' & 'unbelievable passer '

How will we get this star for such paltry amounts. Surely Bayern or Barcelona will be in for this talent.

The boy might do well for us. But people are going over the top with his ability. ( For the record people are underselling it a bit too )

Agree that he is very strong, just ask Brown. Also has a very good range of passing.
On the minus side I do agree that he fouls too much, something our Captain used to be guilty of. I am sure that this aspect of his play can be worked on.

I’ve seen him plenty. Including games not against Celtic. He is not a good passer of the ball. Particularly wasteful with his long passing.

I wonder the reaction on here had we signed Lambert from Motherwell rather than Dortmund. A player can move to a club and surprise you, and then there are the Ciftis if the world, who can’t make that step up.

I would hope that Lennon, Strachan and Rodgers opinion of McGinn is more relevant that most in here.

I could see Flanagan, who is leaving Liverpool being on our Radar.

Brendan rated him highly (i don't particularly) while Liverpool boss. I know he has a reputation for /record of carrotiness though so hopefully not - but woul be a relatively cheap option for replacement for Lustig.
