Good post, agree with all of it other than being a good passer. I reckon that’s quite rusty.
He isn't a good passer. Neither is Armstrong (particularly at higher level).
Agree. Armstrong's passing is the weakest part of his game.

McGinn's aggression is good in theory, but it manifests itself in running about knocking folk over mostly. In Europe, and by virtue of wearing hoops, he'll not be allowed to get away with that.

Given we paid around 3M for Kouassi I'd say let be having ye.

Perhaps Rodgers n the board are thinking long term and the potential of a McGinn/Kouassi midfield pairing in a couple years after Brown retires and Ntchams playing for Real Madrid.

McGinn has good energy and can have a real impact on games. He's still young and rough around the edges, he's as much of a prospect as anything as I can't see him going straight into the first team

He would be a really good signing. He has a lot to his game, passing, goals, tackling, aggressive, energy, box to box. Rodgers will make him even better. Hope we sign him.

I'd be happy enough for us to sign McGinn. I think there's a lot of room for improvement in his game but he seems like the type of character that would fit in well in our side.

Nor was Brown in his first 2/3 seasons with us.

I'm still not convinced by McGinn, but there is definitely room for improvement there and in terms of playing style he's probably the best replacement we could find for Armstrong without venturing south of Hadrian's Wall. I also think it's worth pointing that in the argument over whether he or Kouassi might be Brown's long-term replacement, as a Scottish Celtic fan there's a lot more chance of McGinn spending the best years of his career with us than there is of Kouassi doing likewise.

Are you sure we paid £3M for Kouassi?

I'm sure Brendan himself said the figure was much less than reported.

I thought we were only going after folk who improved our team? i don't see that with McGinn.

if we're saying that he'll improve because of our manager etc, the same could be said for any young-ish player coming in.

i would prefer to move forward, taking the best other player in a league which we have dominated for seasons doesn't seem like progress, it seems lazy.

surely we need to be out looking for more N'Chams and the like, and less Hayes and McGinns?

All the same stuff getting said on here regarding McGinn was said about Hayes last year.
And Hayes struggled big time before his injury.
McGinn is younger and has more scope for improvement than Hayes.

Agree with this to an extent.

If he is going to move this summer anyway then he'll be lost to the league regardless.

I amongst many others are the first to criticise when we have let the prospects of the past slip away to England (McCarthy :ffs:, Fletcher, Robertson etc) so I guess there has to be some middle ground. If we buy him with a view to seeing if it works and then we can punt to the Championship if it doesn't then fair enough. Better to take a punt now than regret it if he ends up moving between teams down south for silly money.

FWIW I'd rather see Kouassi getting his chance.

I'd be very happy with McGinn.

I think he's a cracking wee player.
He's a smashing wee player. He will give absolutely everything as well, playing for celtic will mean a lot to him.

Wouldn't surprise me if Christie ends up on loan at hibs as part of the deal.

Wanted us to sign McGinn when he left St Mirren so no problems with it if we sign him now. This season imo hes been performing at a similar level to Armstrong but at 3 years younger he has more of a chance to improve his game. He seems like less of a floof too. :ph43r:

Rodgers is really keen on Christie, so I'd doubt it.

We look for players we think the coaching team can work with and improve in the main.....that will mean that some of those players take anything from 6 months to 2 years to start showing the quality and consistency to claim a regular slot, and some will just never make it.

It's not an exact science, so there will always be a mix of successful, partly successful and failed signings. If we're now looking at £2-3million as an acceptable price for a development project then that's probably a positive sign of how healthy our finances are and the board's confidence in the coaching staff that we can make a decent return on investing in 2 or 3 players like that each season.

I've liked McGinn since his St Mirren days. Even as a kid he was in our faces and causing us problems. He seems to have plenty of self-belief. I think he would be another relatively inexpensive string to our bow. I'll trust the manager on this one either way.

Good player. Right age. Won't need much time to settle.

Seems an obvious one.

£2.5 million plus Allen doesn't seem relatively inexpensive to me.
