Would McGinn sign for servco if they offered enough ? If he did would he be a thorn in our side ? Just asking
He wouldn't and he would
He might and he wouldn't.
Nonsense.

Thought Rodgers had already stated that Kouassi was Brown's long-term replacement?
If we sign McGinn, I’d say that was a pretty clear sign that Kouassi isn’t in the picture. His lack of opportunities last season - even towards the end of the season when other fringe players were getting a run out and Brown looked in need of a break - spoke volumes.
Surely not ANOTHER waste of money? Not much of a judge of player that he's never worked with before is our Brendan :(
Yeah Dembele, Ntcham, Edouard are extremely poor from the manager. Some nonsense spoke on here.

Kouassi bossed Zenit ffs he’s like 19. Not going anywhere.
He was 19 when we signed him a season and a half ago. Since then he’s played an increasingly limited role, to the point where he wasn’t even given the chance to start any of the dead rubbers at the end of the campaign when most fans were calling for Brown to get a rest ahead of the cup final. Maybe he is in the plans; actions would suggest otherwise though. At the very least, I think he’ll be leaving on loan.
You do know he contracted Malaria right? Not long after joining.

Malaria wasn’t the reason he got hooked at half-time against Zenit and has barely featured since.

Who says it was?

I'm just pointing out a fact. It's clearly obvious he was bought with the vision of taking a good year or 2 to get going and then challenging for a place. We we're even told that clearly at the time. If you think his progress hasn't took a hit because of the Malaria then that's a bit daft. I'll judge the guy next season after he's giving a good 10-12 games. If it doesn't happen then so be it, it's a position we're quite well placed in considering Brown's excellent form and Mcgregor stepping up.

It’s understood no bid has been tabled yet — but talks could take place with Hibs chiefs in the near future.

Your reply is nonsense in itself. The players you have named have obviously been good signings. However, they are outnumbered by the poor ones.

No need to get so worked up by any slight criticism of the manager.

Be mad not to go for John McGinn. Especially if we can get him for around £2.5million. He’s the most consistent performer against Celtic. 230 first team appearances for a 23 year old can’t be knocked. We’ve all seen Rodgers development in players. More so than Calum McGregor this season. We would be stupid not to think McGinn would get better and better. Rodgers always talks about he wants players with a drive to get better. Think you can see it with McGinn. He certainly shows it on the pitch. Also with Armstrong away within the year, Bitton also most likely on that same boat, Brown a year older and if Ntcham has the season which I think he will next season he’ll be attracting interest from everywhere. We always need to be thinking ahead as a club.

So you reckon we have an abundance of experienced defensive midfielders ? That’s news to us all . Outside an aging Brown we have Eboue. Brown himself waxed lyrical about McGinn as an opponent . It’s a no brainer at domestic level certainly .

Agree completely. I can see McGinn as the long-term replacement for Broony. He’s got the right mind set and attitude. Plus, he’s one of us and that’s always a bonus!

Don't really see him as a defensive midfielder TBH (although admittedly I've mostly just seen him in games against us) - he's more of a a ball winner and a chaser who will break forward and try to initiate attacks....for me a defensive midfielder is someone who sits deep, shields his defence and generally keeps himself spare to be available to tidy up possession. The really good ones have a decent range of passing as well and can dictate the pace of the game.

McGinn is a ball winner, but is more likely to try and break forward than find a safe pass to tidy up possession once he does win the ball, so not at all defensive in my book. As such I'd see him more as potential back-up/competition to Ntcham as the midfield runner playing off Broony (or Kouassi).

....but we'll probably end up playing him out wide at first as seems to be the initiation ritual for nearly every central midfielder we've signed in the last 20 years

Yep. I’m into this.

Very rare that I fancy SPFL players for Celtic. Armstrong and Griffiths (loan, pedants) were probably the last two.

Think he has the potential to be Broony’s replacement, and is versatile enough to challenge Ntcham and possibly Rogic in the meantime.

We have a number of players in the middle of the park. We have aggression in there, some decent passers of the ball, pace and power.

We have other more glaring needs that the fee and wages could go on. If he signs fair enough he’ll get the support. I would like us to sign an experienced bastard at centre half, a first choice right back, a left back for competition and another wide midfielder. After that then fine.

We don’t need him in Europe we need a better defence. We have what he brings in the league already.

Scott Brown saying he’s the toughest opponent he’s had all season says it all. I wouldn’t be surprised if Brown and Rodgers have spoke about it and both agreed he’s someone we should have at the club. Aye you can see that in his performances against Celtic. Finds an extra gear. Still only 23 too. Plenty time to improve.
